First, Y&R spoilers told us that Michael had to suddenly drop Phyllis’s case and get out of town. Then we learned that Carson, the criminal willing to lie about why Phyllis conspired with Jeremy Stark — and why she killed him — had mysteriously disappeared. Are the two developments connected? Here’s how they could be.

Y&R Spoilers Speculation: Brutus is an Honorable Man

Michael (Christian Le Blanc) has been known to commit a crime or two in his day. But he went to prison to pay his debt to society. And then, he got his law license back and vowed to walk the straight and narrow. Michael took on Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) case because she was his friend and because he wanted to help. But Michael is not going to risk his hard-won redemption for her. And he also loves Phyllis enough to make sure she doesn’t stupidly risk her freedom either.

Michael has to know that Phyllis is lying. Which means he knows that if he puts her on the stand, she’ll be committing perjury. Both she and Michael could be arrested for that one. So Michael came up with a plan that was within the letter of the law. First, he dropped Phyllis as a client because he could not support her lies. He got Heather (Vail Bloom) to take over because Heather would believe whatever Phyllis says.

Then he disappeared Carson. Because Michael understands that if Carson is allowed to testify, that will make Phyllis’s case even worse. If he’s proven a liar, Phyllis will look even more guilty. At least, without Carson, Heather will be forced to defend Phyllis on true facts, rather than made-up ones which, in the end, is better for everyone.
Leave it to Michael to save Phyllis from herself. Again. Even if he has to do it in the most underhanded way possible. In the name of honesty.
