What Happened To Austin Reed After Married At First Sight Season 17?

Married at First Sight season 17 finished airing in late April 2024, and it’s time to catch up with what cast member Austin Reed is doing now. 32-year-old Austin described himself as a typical Colorado guy on the show. He was paired with 31-year-old wedding photographer, Becca Haley. They were matched together by the Married at First Sight panel of experts, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Pastor Cal Roberson, and Dr. Pia Holec.

The experts seriously dropped the ball in season 17. The season started with a runaway bride situation, and participant Michael Shiakallis was rematched with a new spouse, signaling that experts used poor judgment in casting. Moreover, Michael said no to his bride Chloe Brown on Decision Day. In fact, none of the Married at First Sight season 17 couples stayed together, and the season cast had overwhelming animosity between the male and female cast over a failed group dupe that took place. Becca and Austin were the only couple to say yes on Decision Day, however, that was very short-lived.

Austin & Becca’s Journey
Austin & Becca Didn’t End Up Together

Becca and Austin had instant chemistry at the altar, and their bond grew the morning after their wedding when Austin responded empathetically to Becca bringing up her ongoing medical issues. On the honeymoon, they seemed like the most solid and affectionate couple. Things changed when they got back to Denver and Becca realized she didn’t like Austin’s conservative views on religion. Moreover, Austin had a much slower intimacy pace than Becca wanted, and she felt continuously rejected.

Becca’s disdain for the lack of intimacy was a reoccurring thing in their marriage and that issue was compounded by Austin feeling like Becca was trying to silence him and make him look bad on TV (via Lifetime.) Despite their many problems, Becca and Austin stayed together on Decision Day but broke up the next day in front of everyone at the group gathering after Becca caught Austin in a lie. At the Reunion, Becca said she didn’t want any kind of relationship with Austin for at least a few years. Austin defended that he wanted to be in a marriage with Becca throughout the process.

Is Austin Friends With MAFS Season 17 Cast?
Season 17 Was Extremely Contentious

Austin acknowledged his Married at First Sight season 17 appearance in his Instagram bio.

“Married at first sight sn 17 Denver. It was a hell of a ride, I’ll walk you through it.”

While you can only know what’s in Austin’s three IG posts if you follow him, he has been friendly with his Married at First Sight costars. On May 4, 2024, Michael shared a photo depicting that Austin was at a boxing event in Denver to support him. Season 17’s Orion Martlzloff and Michael’s ex Chloe were there too. Austin is also followed by season 17 villain Emily Balch, which means that she might not dislike him as much as she does the other season 18 male cast members.
