Victor Newman Sinks Lower Than Ever On Y&R

That Victor Newman was a horrible The Young and the Restless parent is no secret. He barely remembers that Abby exists, except when it’s as a connection to his grandson Dominic. He enjoys making Adam jump through hoops and then blaming him for not appreciating Victor’s parenting. He keeps pulling Nick away from what he truly wants via a combination of emotional blackmail and a well-timed physical crisis. But Victor’s conversation with Victoria took toxic fatherhood to a new and truly disgusting level.

Victor Newman: You’re Nothing Without Me

First, Victor (Eric Braeden) ridiculed Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) business instincts by comparing them to her personal life choices. Victor derided Victoria’s one-time relationships with Billy (Jason Thompson), JT (Thad Luckinbill), Nate (Sean Dominic), and Ashland (Robert Newman) — without acknowledging that he also fell for Ashland’s lies hook, line, and sinker, or that he ruthlessly manipulated Nate into “betraying” him in a manner we still don’t understand.

As if Victor’s romantic record is spotless! He’s been played by a woman or two in his life. Do the names Leanna Love (Barbara Crampton) or Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) ring a bell? And let’s not even discuss Eve Howard (Margaret Mason)!

Everything I Do, I Do It For You

But Victor truly hit new and grotesque highs — lows? — when he explained that, without having Newman Enterprises to focus on, Victoria would spiral out of control. She cannot run her own life without Daddy there to guide her every step of the way.

Truly, she should be grateful that Victor allows Victoria to parent his grandchildren, Reed, Johnny (Paxton Mishkind), and the invisible Katie. Isn’t that nice of him, considering he believes she is utterly and completely incompetent? What kind of father says something like that to their child? Worse, what kind of father truly believes what he’s saying? Victor, that’s who.
