Two couples dramatically called time on their relationships during Sunday night’s heated first reunion episode of Married At First Sight.
The couplings of Jamie Marinos and Dave Hand and Awhina Rutene and Adrian Araouzou ended under explosive circumstances —with one bride storming off in tears.
Jamie, 28, and Dave, 36, had already been on rocky ground, after she was left blindsided by her husband’s hot-and-cold behaviour before final vows.
Tensions finally boiled over during the shock episode, when Dave told their cast mates that he and Jamie had come to a mutual decision to part ways and remain friends.
Still raw from their break up, which she initiated two weeks prior to the reunion, Jamie called her husband out.
‘Can we not give a bul***t excuse! You just didn’t have feelings for me,’ she said.
‘We all saw that I fell for this man! I had bloody strong feelings which is fantastic. But when you have someone that just doesn’t feel that way, you start to feel insecure, s**t, like you are letting yourself down every single day.
‘I had dinner with him last week and I said to him, “I can see you don’t see me as the mother of your children.” His response… silence.’
Jamie then berated Dave for his continual lack of effort throughout their relationship.
‘I’m putting a break-up in front of you, which I’ve had to initiate because you can’t tell me you are not into me. You just go, “yeah, fair enough.” Case in point, you are not into me,’ she continued.
‘This is so sad and embarrassing for me. So frustrating!’ she added, before breaking down in tears and storming out of the room.
Meanwhile, Dave remained silent and stone-faced throughout Jamie’s emotional outburst, making no attempt to follow her as she exited.
‘I didn’t expect to cry. But as I was walking all this emotion came out. Like I was so p***ed off at him that I needed to cry,’ Jamie later said.
‘It is so frustrating that I had to initiate the break-up. It is so not fair, Dave just couldn’t ever be honest with how he was feeling.’
‘I had real feelings,’ Jamie told all the other brides, who gathered around her in a tender showing of support.
‘I did come here to find love but I did end up walking out of here with friends for life,’ she reflected.
‘I didn’t expect anyone to come with me. To see all of the girls come, sit, rally, and support me means the world.’
Elsewhere in the episode, Awhina Rutene and Adrian Araouzou also called it quits — after fellow bride Sierah Swepstone made a bombshell admission that blew up the remains of their romance.
Sierah, 31, set the stage for a fiery confrontation, declaring just moments before her arrival at the Cocktail Party that she intended to shake things up.
‘I can’t wait to get to the party and tell everyone to get f**ked. Awhina Rutene is just an a***hole and tonight I am on a mission to drop her in the s**t in front of everyone. She is not going to be happy,’ Sierah said.
She had previously branded her former friends ‘nasty c***s’ and Sierah accused her ex-husband Billy Belcher and Awhina of conspiring to ruin her reputation at the reunion.
‘You said Adrian is stupid, he can’t spell, his business is a joke, that he’s too stupid to run a business and that he treats you horribly!’ Sierah told Awhina in front of the entire group, including Adrian.
Shocked, Adrian turned to Awhina and asked if she had indeed made those remarks, prompting an embarrassed admission from her that ‘some’ of it was true.
‘You know what? I don’t care about Sierah, but it is a big issue what Awhina said about me. I never said a bad word about her,’ a furious Adrian told his castmates.
Awhina later approached Adrian and asked if she could speak to him and he bluntly told her ‘no’ – adding they had nothing more to say to each other.
‘No, you are not getting my time any more,’ Adrian told her, effectively ending their relationship.
‘There’s nothing Awhina can say to me right now. For me, the biggest insult you can call someone is dumb. It is something I won’t tolerate, that’s it!’ Adrian later vented to the camera.
Meanwhile, Awhina revealed she was okay with being the villain in Adrian’s story because he was something much worse in hers.
Married At First Sight’s dramatic finale will air 7.30pm on Monday on Channel Nine.
