“Blue Bloods” manages to differentiate itself from the competition by putting the focus first and foremost on family. The Reagans have all taken professions in law enforcement, and throughout any given episode, they’ll all have various cases they’re in charge of. From chasing down crooks to gathering enough evidence to put bad guys behind bars, it’s not an easy job, but it’s made a bit more manageable because they can lean on one another for support.
They may get into the occasional argument, but it’s abundantly clear throughout the show’s decade on the air that they all love one another. They’re more than happy to set aside any differences and gather for a heartwarming family dinner where they discuss the latest case or their favorite movies while eating some delicious food. Those moments of levity really make the show stand out amidst the brutality that could overwhelm such a series.
But family can be so much more than the people you’re related to. Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) has worked alongside Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) for a long time now, to the point where she’s pretty much family at this point. And that connection has led to a pretty monumental moment that’s one of the most heartwarming in the entire series.
One line cemented Baez and Danny’s relationship
Danny and Baez are the definition of partner goals. They’ve always been there for one another. Baez was a constant source of comfort when Danny’s wife passed away, and Danny was there for Baez when her brother died. They’ve been together through thick and thin, becoming much more than police partners. They’re practically family at this point, to the extent that it’s become a common refrain from fans to wonder when the two will finally get together and start dating.
Their connection with one another was abundantly evident during one pivotal moment that’s gone on to become commonly used in commercials advertising “Blue Bloods.” It’s become iconic when Baez told Danny, “You’re the only person who’s never let me down.” Danny responded, “And I never will.” The two have been on dozens of cases over the years. They’ve tracked down thieves and murderers. They’ve put themselves in harm’s way more times than either would likely care to admit, but they’ve done so as a team.
The moment really exemplified how much the two care for one another, and it really shouldn’t have come as any surprise when Danny invited Baez to the weekly Reagan family dinner. That was also a significantly heartwarming moment because those dinners are strictly for Reagans only, but with Baez being accepted into it, it proves the Reagans consider her family.
