The Young and the Restless viewers know that Summer Newman is going through a lot in her life, and it seems she’s put the blame squarely on her mother. She’s managed to turn over a new leaf, and despite her impending divorce from Kyle Abbott, Summer has a new attitude. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R are presented to Summer’s portrayer, Allison Lanier.
Allison Lanier: Y&R Performer of the Week
This week was something of an epiphany for Summer. She, once again, had a chat with her friend, Chance (Conner Floyd). Although he took a raincheck, Summer decided that her new outlook after her up and down emotions lately needed an actual roller coaster to kick off her return to her old self. We loved watching Lanier enjoy the roller coaster, showcasing Summer’s mild fear, and then screaming in delight as Summer took some joy after such a tough time in her life.
Before that, Summer had an earnest talk with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Lanier really shined as Summer gave her mom some straight talk. We appreciated the earnest way she delivered the words Summer said. Finally, after months of putting Phyllis ahead of herself and her life, Summer managed to put herself back in the first place and do what she needed to do for herself.
Later, Summer and Daniel (Michael Graziadei) realized they just couldn’t continue on with their mom’s insanity. Their scenes together worked well as siblings connecting over their concerns. When she showed up to see Phyllis’s celebration in the park, Lanier’s reaction showed just how frustrated Summer was with her mom before she even said a word. Her line delivery was spot on, too. Congratulations, Allison Lanier on a week of excellent performances as Summer. We can’t wait to see what happens next for her in Genoa City.
