This proved to be too much for many fans, who preferred to skip it while rewatching the series.
Grey’s Anatomy is full of memorable episodes, both heartwarming and shocking. But there is one (or technically two) that completely tore fans’ hearts apart with how heartbreaking and terrifying it was.
Those are Sanctuary and Death and All His Friends, which were the last two episodes of Season 6.
Although they have an intense plot and brilliant acting, some of the best in the entire series, many fans admit that they will most likely never watch them again.
It all begins with a normal day at the hospital that quickly turns into a nightmare. Gary Clark, enraged by the loss of his wife who was a patient, returns with a vengeance and opens fire on the residents.
Reed Adamson was the first victim of the deranged killer, shot in the head. Clark then seriously wounded Alex Karev, who barely survived the encounter thanks to his colleagues.
In one of the scariest scenes, Cristina Yang tells the killer how to find Derek Shepherd, unaware of how close she was to death.
She then plays a crucial role in saving Derek’s life by operating on him and ingeniously tricking Clark into believing he has achieved his goal.
Other heartbreaking and chilling moments include the foreshadowing of the plane crash, Meredith having a miscarriage from all the stress, and Richard Webber convincing Clark to kill himself in an intense dialogue.
In addition to the aforementioned Reed, many hospital staff members met their deaths that day, including Vivian and Charles Percy.
Fans were absolutely mortified by this episode and admit that it felt all too real, especially for those living in the US.
They say they skip it when they re-watch, as it is just too hard to relive.
An undoubtedly great season finale, but too dark and horrifying to go through again.
