Emily Seebohm has shared details of her pregnancy with her first child, admitting it was difficult.
The swimming champion, 31, welcomed her son Sampson with new fiancé and former Married At First Sight star Ryan Gallagher, 35, in September 2023.
‘Pregnancy for me was really hard. I ended up with borderline pre-eclampsia. I couldn’t do much exercise because there were a lot of pains,’ she tells Stellar.
Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication that causes high blood pressure, which can be deadly for both a woman and her unborn baby if untreated.
‘It felt like the pregnancy took away everything that I ever knew,’ she added.
Emily said she’s now recovering and back in the pool training for the 2024 Paris Olympics six days a week.
‘Being able to be in the water is nice, because I remember what my body is able to do,’ she said.
Elsewhere in the interview, the athlete said that she and her reality star fiancé are in no rush to marry – but may elope at any time.
‘I feel like sometimes we talk about it and say maybe we should elope or we’ll go to the Town Hall and just get it done,’ Emily says.
‘If weddings weren’t so expensive or take so long to plan, we would have done it. It’s probably an after Paris thing.’
Posting to her Instagram account recently, the Olympian gave fans a look into her ‘day in the life’ while balancing motherhood and training as an athlete.
In the video, the new mum started her morning by arriving at the pool at 6am, swimming 5.4 kilometres for nearly two hours.
‘This week has shattered me, so I’m pretty tired,’ she said in the clip.
Meanwhile, Emily’s son Sampson was having his ‘first nap’ of the day at her mother’s home.
‘When I woke him up, we went for a swim,’ she continued. ‘We had a bit of a play and then he went down for his second nap, which I thought was going to be a long one.’
She then returned to her parent’s house where Sampson had another nap while she pampered herself with a manicure before preparing a muesli slice and pumping milk for her newborn,
Emily and her fiancé Ryan announced the arrival of their first child together in September in a very subtle move.
Ryan quietly changed his public Facebook profile picture on September 13 to feature a photo of himself and Emily with their newly born son.
Ryan and Emily got engaged in December 2022, a mere four months after their initial meeting while filming The Challenge Australia.
