Nikki Newman thought the worst of her problems were over on The Young and the Restless when she and her family escaped from Jordan’s crazy clutches. They’re home now, and Victor has announced that everything is fine. So, everything should be fine…right? Not so fast. Nikki has some major choices ahead of her. Which option will she pick?
Nikki Newman: Down the Rabbit Hole
It would be awful if Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) were too far gone. If Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Claire (Hayley Erin) pumping her full of vodka (relive that mess here.) make it impossible for her ever to get on the wagon again. If that’s the case, Nikki will keep drinking until she hits rock bottom — and then she’ll keep on drinking.
Victor (Eric Braeden) will insist on sticking by her because that’s the kind of perfect husband he is. But, what if Nikki cares more about the vodka than continuing to hear him call her “my baby” in that creepy way of his?
Barely an Inconvenience
Of course, the opposite could also happen. Victor’s love, devotion, and obsessive hovering could be just what Nikki needs to kick her addiction for good. Who needs alcohol when you have Victor? Nikki won’t want to disappoint him. She’ll stop drinking if only so it doesn’t make Victor sad.
Hide and Sick
But, most likely, Nikki will split the difference. She’ll keep drinking — but she’ll hide it from Victor. She’ll tell herself it’s so he won’t worry about her, or so she won’t spoil the holiday season for the family, or because she can handle it. But, in reality, it will be because Nikki wants to keep drinking…without listening to Victor lecture her about it.
Nikki believes she can keep herself under control, put Victor’s fears at ease, reassure her children, and have a festive Christmas. While guzzling from a flask. Everybody wins! Until they don’t, of course.
