Married At First Sight UK’s Jordan Gayle has hit back at his ‘bitter’ ex Erica Roberts after she claimed there were ‘red flags’ in their relationship.
The former personal trainer, 27, ‘married’ Erica, 26, while taking part the Channel 4 social experiment last year, but announced their split in February.
In an interview this week, Erica blamed their break up on Jordan’s ‘insane behaviour,’ despite previously saying there was ‘no bad blood’ between them.
Jordan, who has since moved on with Melissa Golik, an emergency nurse from Australia, admitted he ‘doesn’t regret anything’ about his former relationship and doesn’t understand where the ‘anger and bitterness has come from.’
Speaking to The Sun, he said: ‘If you’re seeing red flags from someone on a honeymoon after you’ve only known them for a week, then what are you doing with them 11 months after, if it’s apparently so bad?’
Jordan continued: ‘To me, it’s looking at it through a very bitter place and I don’t need to look at it in a bitter way.
‘I’m happy with the time I had. I don’t regret anything. Obviously, there’s good memories and I wouldn’t change that. I don’t get where all this anger and bitterness has come from.’
On Tuesday Erica, has revealed that their break up wasn’t quite as amicable as she first made out as she detailed his ‘insane behaviour’ in the lead up to their split.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Erica said: ‘It was a long time coming. I just completely started losing myself, trying to look after him.
‘I feel like I very much took that role in the relationship. He needed a lot from me and I think he really put a lot of pressure on me to be his sole support system. And that’s too much for one person.
‘I want to be your partner and your lover, not your therapist and your mum. It just got too much for me.’
Claiming the relationship got too much for her, Erica added that their relationship was not ‘balanced’.
Erica and Jordan appeared on the Channel 4 show last year and met for the first time at the altar on their wedding day.
They were an ‘intruder’ couple, as they joined the show late and seemed to be one of the most loved-up pairings.
However, during the explosive reunion show, Erica and Jordan’s co-star Laura Vaughan claimed that the couple were arguing non-stop while living with her.
But the breaking point came on Jordan’s 27th birthday when Erica surprised him with a trip to Scotland where she lives.
Erica said that even thought she had booked him a special trip, because she couldn’t also come to a ten-pin bowling evening in Sheffield with his mother he was furious.
Erica revealed that he told her that her efforts had been the ‘bare minimum’, despite the fact she claimed he had never even taken her out for dinner.
The TV star admitted that she felt she ‘couldn’t do this anymore’ and that it was ‘insane behaviour’ from her former flame.
Erica went on to reveal that there were a lot of ‘red flags’ early on in their relationship.
The couple also reportedly had a row on the last night of their honeymoon in Antigua which caused Erica to start having doubts, however, this was not shown on TV.
She claimed that on their wedding day, he would interrupt her or flip the conversation back on to him whenever she would speak about herself.
She also confessed that it continuously happened on their honeymoon too.
Admitting that their relationship wasn’t at all how it seemed on screen, Erica said that a ‘lot of things went on’ that viewers did not see.
She also added that when she tried to discuss with him her feelings about his dismissiveness it led to him having a ‘meltdown’.
The star then said she knew from that moment that his communication skills were ‘non-existent’ at that point.
She revealed that she would have to ‘comfort him’ because he was upset at how he had made her feel.
Admitting that it was the ‘common theme’ throughout their entire relationship, Erica claimed looking back on their time together, she can see the ‘warning signs’ were there from ‘day one’.
After the couple split, Erica claimed most of her co-stars congratulated her on finally ending their relationship.
She claimed that they were all like ‘Well done you got rid of him’ and said the breakup was a ‘long time coming’.
The star also revealed the reason she stayed with Jordan for so long was because there were some good moments throughout the relationship.
Erica told The Sun that she did ‘really like him and wanted to make it work’ as they had ‘so much fun with each other’.
But she admitted coming off the show she felt pressure around them as a couple to make it work for the fans.
However, Erica claimed that she would have ended up ‘needing therapy’ if she were to continue the relationship.
After three hugely successful series, two BAFTA nominations and even a baby, the fourth series is set to bring more love and drama than ever, as a fresh batch of brave singles prepare to say ‘I do’ to a complete stranger.
