Popular Married At First Sight Australia star Olivia Frazer has called for the show to increase its mental health support following the death of MAFS New Zealand star Andrew Jury aged 33.
The builder was one of the original grooms from the first season of the reality show, which aired in 2017 when he was 26-years-old.
His co-stars Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell recently announced his shock death in a joint statement.
‘It’s with the heaviest hearts we’ve come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,’ it read.
‘We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show which leaves us intricately linked for a lifetime.
‘Despite his struggles, Andrew was always friendly and the life of the party during our shared experience and he really valued his time on the show.’
Olivia said producers should offer more support to the participants after filming.
‘This highlights the lack of duty of care given by production companies,’ she told Yahoo Lifestyle.
‘MAFS in particular has a huge history of changing people’s lives drastically, and more preparation and ongoing support needs to be given to participants. What support they offer currently is just to tick a box and basically negligence.’
Olivia has previously spoken about her own struggles with mental health issues after appearing on the show two years ago.
She admitted back in 2022 she suffered from both anxiety and depression.
The reality star was dubbed a ‘villain’ during the dramatic 2022 MAFS season after sharing a nude photo of Domenica Calarco among the cast, outing her as an OnlyFans model.
Dom had shared the image on her public Twitter profile in early 2021 to promote her OnlyFans account, which has since been deleted.
The photo quickly spread through the MAFS cast via WhatsApp, and was addressed at the first dinner party following the couples’ retreat.
Domenica was humiliated to learn her co-stars knew about her OnlyFans page and had seen her naked, and eventually broke down in tears.
Olivia later refused to apologise for discovering the picture.
She fell victim to trolls who would slam her over the MAFS controversy when she attended red carpets or event.
Meanwhile, Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell sent their condolences to Andrew’s family while announcing his death last week.
‘At this time our entire cast wish to send our deepest condolences and love to his family – Ben, Angel, Brett, Vicky, Haydn, Lacey, Claire, Dom, Aaron, Luke, Belinda,’ they wrote in their statement.
Andrew was paired with bride Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, and while the pair stayed together during the finale, they split after filming ended.
