Married At First Sight Season 17: Emily Is Not The Nice Person She Wants To Portray (Ways She’S Mean-Spirited)

Married at First Sight season 17 alum Emily Balch is actually a mean-spirited person and not the nice, fun girl she wanted to portray on the show. Emily got Married at First Sight to Brennan Shoykhet, and Brennan was Emily’s first relationship ever. Brennan didn’t let that scare him at first, and the pair seemed to have chemistry instantly. Their honeymoon also brought them closer together, and they clearly aligned on important life outlooks and goals. Things changed, however, upon their return from Denver when Brennan proclaimed he lost all attraction for Emily.

The rest of the season was spent with Brennan not giving a reason why and Emily still trying to make the relationship work. Shortly before Decision Day, Brennan told Emily he wasn’t attracted to her because she was a negative person who said mean things about others. Emily thought she was “the most positive f***ing person,” and was deeply offended by Brennan’s comment. Moreover, Brennan credited himself with saving her life in the aftermath of her ATV accident, another point that became ugly between the two. In Emily’s spite and detest for Brennan, she is actually painting herself out to be negative like he said.

Emily Is Full Of Herself
Her Ego Is Over-Inflated

In the aftermath of her being embarrassed and called out by Brennan, Emily went on the offensive, and it showcased her inflated ego. Emily portrayed herself as a confident outgoing person throughout the season, but she took things over the edge during the Reunion and showed Married at First Sight season 17 viewers that she is not humble. In one of the Reunion trailers, Emily seemed to be trying to exude self-assuredness, but it came off as bratty and unbecoming.

“Who wouldn’t want to make out with me?” Emily asked.

Emily Put Down Brennan’s Looks
She’s Salty Towards Brennan

In Part 1 of the Married at First Sight season 17 Reunion, Emily, Becca Haley, Lauren Goodger, and Clare Kerr all wore pink in solidarity with each other and banded together against their ex-husbands. They thought the men were trying to silence them and that they never gave their marriages a chance and they felt scorned. The women were heated, and in a backstage gathering between the four, Emily was filmed verbally bashing Brennan’s appearance, calling herself a “10” and Brennan a “1”.

“2’s and 12’s,” Emily also compared.

Emily Harbors Resentment & Lashes Out
Emily Is Hyper-Emotional

It’s become clear that when Emily is upset or feels wronged, her true colors come out. And her true colors are vindictive and mean. She couldn’t control her emotions and have a progressive conversation with Brennan when he laid out his truth (via Lifetime,) and she couldn’t remain composed during the Reunion either.

Emily was fired up throughout the Reunion, and frequently interrupted Brennan and the other male cast members to try and bash them, which only served to highlight that she is not the positive and agreeable person she said she was.

Emily Had A Nasty Afterparty Exchange With Host
Emily Has No Filter

Outside of Married at First Sight season 17, Emily has showcased her bad attitude on the Lifetime show’s spinoff, Afterparty. On the aftershow, current and former cast members dish on the drama of the season and share their opinions and perspectives with host Keshia Knight Pulliam. During one episode, Emily was talking about being burned by Brennan and how he was a controlling person after she, Keisha, Austin Reed and Michael Shiakallis were shown a clip from one of Emily and Brennan’s therapy sessions.

Emily took her time in the spotlight to badmouth Brennan, and Keisha stopped her to say, “You keep giving me your interpretation.” Keisha was looking for Emily’s thoughts on what the viewers might have felt.

“I think you’re trying to ask me a question that is honestly going nowhere for like what we just observed. do you have different question?” Emily snapped.

Keisha was taken aback by Emily’s brashness and disrespectful tone. Emily has presented her negative attitude, penchant for trash-talking, and inability to reel herself back and act mature in situations trying to foster communication and progress. Emily is certainly not the “positive, positive” person Brennan asked the experts for, and she might be the biggest villain of the season for her lack of self-awareness and endeavor to smear Brennan and the other Married at First Sight season 17 men.
