Married At First Sight stars Eden Harper and Jayden Eynaud walked out of Wednesday night’s dinner party as their relationship reached breaking point.
Cracks began to show in the former golden couple’s romance at Sunday’s commitment ceremony when the groom revealed he wasn’t sure if she was the right person for him.
After a turbulent Homestays visit, tensions further rose between the couple ahead of the latest dinner party, with an anxious Eden, 28, admitting that she didn’t want to go.
She shared her fears she and Jayden, 26, would row or break up over the drama, breaking down in tears as she admitted she was ‘too scared’ to go into the tense group setting.
After agreeing to go to the party, they soon faced intense questioning from the other couples about the status of their relationship, with Eden freezing under the spotlight.
After walking away from the others, they talked privately as Eden struggled with her anxiety, but their relationship reached breaking point as they failed to reach an understanding.
The emotional scenes kicked off earlier in the episode when Eden broke down in tears as she admitted she didn’t think she could handle going to the party.
Through tears, she told Jayden: ‘I obviously thought I could do it, I can’t. The way that I’ve been and the way I’ve felt is clear that I can’t handle this. These events give me such anxiety that it’s not worth it for me anymore.’
She shared her fears over their relationship getting ‘ruined’ over questioning at the dinner, with Jayden insisting he still wanted to honestly discuss their issues despite her concerns.
He said: ‘Going into the dinner party, if they ask us a question of how it is, I have to be honest about it.’
Eden eventually agreed to go to the party, but admitted: ‘Right now, I’m feeling anxious. I don’t know what Jayden is going to say to the group.’
‘I’m hoping to avoid talking about the problems that we had,’ she added as she shared her concerns about getting into another argument with Jayden.
After leaving the table to talk one-on-one, Eden insisted she was fine and urged Jayden to go back to the group, but he insisted he wouldn’t leave her while she struggled with her anxiety.
‘It doesn’t matter what I do or how hard I try, I never seem to get it right,’ Jayden said to camera.
While Eden explained: ‘I don’t think Jayden gets it, I don’t want to talk about stuff, I want to be alone, I want to go.’
Eden then told him how she didn’t want to rehash their issues and have another argument, with Jayden struggling with how to support her with her anxiety.
Jayden admitted: ‘I’m kind of a bit over it to be honest as I don’t know how to handle the situation.’
Eden appeared emotional as she admitted she ‘sometimes’ feels like she isn’t the right person for him, as the pair struggled to communicate.
Becoming overwhelmed, Eden said of continuing with the experiment: ‘I think I can’t really do this. I don’t think I can do this anymore.’
But Jayden urged her to make up her mind after going back and forth about whether she would stay or leave, with the experts questioning his way of communicating with her as they watched on.
‘I am scared of conflict with him because I can’t get out of it once I’m in it,’ Eden confessed to camera.
‘Sometimes I feel like he treats me like his opponent rather than his teammate.’
‘I can’t get out of it unless I agree and say all good. I feel like I can’t win and that I’m in a lose lose,’ she added, as scenes showed her shutting down in their tense chat.
Eden admitted that she deeply cares about Jayden and was worried about damaging their relationship as she appeared committed to making it work with him.
It remains to be seen whether the pair will overcome their issues as they will come under further scrutiny from the experts at Sunday’s commitment ceremony.
