Layton Mills and Melinda Willis ended their season on Married at first Sight last year by taking their final vows.
But now groom Layton has revealed that the couple came close to splitting for good, which never made the final edit.
He also revealed that producers urged the pair to film more scenes after they experienced a major row.
The 35-year-old entrepreneur said the couple had a ‘huge fight’ after the dinner party.
‘They cut out a lot [of the dinner party],’ Layton said on the latest episode of the Behind the Edit podcast.
‘We went back to separate apartments,’ he continues.
‘And they [the producers] got us to film another scene, they were like “hey guys this isn’t how your story should end”, which is true.’
Elsewhere in the chat Layton admitted that the couple were arguing until their final vows and they weren’t sure ‘which way it would go’.
‘Getting to final vows I think we both kind of forgot about a lot of the rubbish and focused on what we liked about each other, so it ended up being really beautiful’ he said.
He added that the final vows were really ‘authentic’ because right up until filming they ‘could have gone either way,’ he said – which the producers were not aware of.
It comes after the couple announced that they separated last October after dating for year after leaving the experiment.
Melinda, 32, broke the news via an Instagram by posting a black and white picture of the couple kissing.
She added a caption saying that they wanted to keep the matter private but decided they owed transparency to supporters who were invested in their relationship.
‘After a lot of thought and consideration, we have sadly decided to both take time apart,’ Melinda said.
The couple were one of two pairs that appeared to still be going strong following the 2023 season of Married At First Sight, with the lovebirds recently moving in together.
However, the fashion CEO recently revealed on Two Girls, One Pod that Layton had yet to verbally drop the ‘L-bomb’.
Host Yvie Jones spoke with Melinda about her relationship with the biotech CEO when she dropped the surprising bombshell.
‘But he’s never told you he loves you. Is that true?’ Yvie asked when Melinda spoke about defying the odds with Layton.
‘He has now, but it was in a love letter,’ Melinda confessed.
She went on to say that Layton found it ‘really, really hard’ to say the words out loud.
Despite his inability to say the words, Layton gifted her an eternity ring for their one-year anniversary.
