Married at First Sight star Mel Schilling has provided an update on her chemotherapy journey after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023.

The dating and relationships coach opened up to her Instagram followers, explaining how moments of “energy” and “vibrance” are regularly mixed with bouts of “fatigue” and “discomfort” as her treatment continues.

“This is my chemo chapter – it’s very up & down,” Schilling wrote.

“Now on cycle 6 of 8, I’m learning how my body responds and finding ways to schedule my work during high energy periods & making the most of rest and self care in between. Learning to rest is a *huge* challenge for me but I’m slowly adapting.”

Schilling, went on to explain how reminding herself that her cancer journey is just “one chapter in my life” has become helpful through chemotherapy.

“I know I have other, probably challenging chapters ahead, but they are not for today,” she added.

“Self compassion is one of my biggest lessons – I’m learning to cut myself some slack, allow the rest my body craves and to be kind to myself when I can’t be my usual ‘100% energy Mel’.”

Mel recently confirmed in an interview that she was “about halfway through” her treatment, and explained that she’d been trying to balance her workload while undergoing to protect both her physical and mental health.

“Working is so important to me, and while it does take energy from me, it gives me energy too – I get so much out of my work and I need it,” she said.

“If I had to sit on the couch and watch TV all day I’d probably go crazy. So I’m juggling not just my physical health but my mental health too.”
