Lala Kent has shared the details of her birth story after welcoming second daughter Sosa earlier this month.
The 34-year-old Vanderpump Rules personality announced her baby girl’s arrival via Instagram on September 9, simply writing in the caption, ‘Sosa Kent,’ along with a black and white image of her feet.
On the latest episode of her podcast Give Them Lala, the star revealed the quick delivery of the child led to the baby ‘turning purple’ at one point.
‘During my second-to-last push, [my obstetrician] kind of stands up really fast, and he’s fixated on the monitor,’ she recalled.
She added, ‘And he’s making eyes with the nurse who’s reading things to him that I clearly don’t understand ’cause I’m not a doctor. And he looks nervous.’
Kent recounted asking her doctor if everything was okay as the medical professional answered, ‘yep, I just want you to keep pushing.’
She later learned that ‘the [umbilical] cord was wrapped around [Sosa’s] neck a couple of times.’
Lala said that in the wake of the mishap, her doctor ‘stayed calm’ and ‘didn’t let [her] know that.’
The reality television star went on: ‘She comes out, they put her on my chest and I go to hug her — you know, embrace my baby — but the way that the nurse is acting with the baby… and she’s not crying. She does one cry and then it stops.’
‘And my hands are freezing, so I’m like, “I’m not touching her because I don’t want to send her into shock,”‘ the new mom said.
The nurses then began ‘rubbing her chest’ and ‘sucking things out of her mouth’ as it had turned out the newborn had swallowed amniotic fluid.
She shared with listeners, ‘For mama, it was great that she came out so quickly ’cause I didn’t have to push very many times, but with a fast birth like that, she swallowed a lot of amniotic fluid.’
Lala, whose birth name is Lauren, said Sosa ‘had so much fluid that she was vomiting all the food she had.’
That’s when the baby ‘turned purple’ and ‘freaked out’ the nurse, prompting a call for backup.
Kent continued, ‘They then bring in a specialist, and they’re like, “We want a surgeon to look at her ’cause this isn’t normal, and we got 10 milliliters of amniotic fluid out of her stomach the first time, then we got another eight, then we got another however many milliliters.’
The story sounded increasingly dire as she revealed, ‘And they go, “And now we’re draining it through the nose, and it won’t stop.” And they said, “We’re either going to have pediatric surgery deal with it, or we wanna keep her in the NICU.”‘
Lala began to blame herself for the scary moment as she wondered what she did differently between her first and second pregnancies. In addition to Sosa, she shares three-year-old daughter Ocean with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett.
The media personality said she was ‘beside myself’ and asked, ‘What the f**k?’
‘I started crying, and they were like, “You did nothing wrong during pregnancy; we’re just a little confused.’
In the end, she said her daughter ended up being ‘fine.’ The new mother-of-two was spotted out to lunch with Sosa in Sherman Oaks two weeks after she gave birth.
A follow-up post after she announced her daughter’s arrival, she wrote: ‘Two weeks ago, on September 3rd, I welcomed my second baby girl, Sosa Kent. I’ve been open about my dream of this moment- at 10:13pm the moment came true.
‘My little dream baby entered the world. I am completely in love with her- We all are. Sosa, you have no idea what you have brought into my life. I am blessed to call myself your mama. Welcome to our crazy world, boo boo. We are so happy you’re here.’
