Katie Maloney accused her former Vanderpump Rules Costars of self-producing while appearing on a podcast earlier this week.
As she also weighed in on the series reboot and the new cast, revealing that she planned to quit the Bravo series before the announcement was made, and confirming whether she’s met the newbies, Katie, 38, shared the behind-the-scenes secrets about the show, including how certain cast members would “try on” new personalities.
“Not everybody but some people on the show definitely were trying to self-produce a lot, and that would be frustrating because you’re like, ‘Why are you acting this way?’ Those times get frustrating, I think, because you’re just trying to be as authentically yourself as possible when you see somebody else like, trying on a new personality, you’re like, ‘Okay,’” Katie explained on February 11 episode of Boyfriend Material with Harry Jowsey. “People think that they can sway audience opinion, and you are just so f*cked if you think that you can predict what an audience is gonna think or feel.”
Although Katie didn’t name names, she suggested that certain co-stars would behave in certain ways to become more favored by the audience.
“They would think that, and they would just sort of be like, ‘Well, I’m gonna be this, this season.’ You want to appeal to people more, but it never works. It blows up in people’s faces every single time,” Katie noted.
Then, after being asked what would be surprising to know about the show, Katie revealed that she and her castmates were not followed 24/7.
“People always do find it shocking when the cameras don’t follow us around all day. I don’t know why that’s shocking, but they don’t just show up and then just be like, ‘What are we doing today?’ I’m like, ‘No. We get call times. They have to clear locations for us to film out,’” she shared. “We cannot just roll cameras everywhere.”
As Pump Rules moves on with a new group of SUR servers, Katie explained why she did not want to be featured in season 12.
“I was very much, especially after the last season, done with the show. I mean, it was 11 seasons. That’s a long time to be on a show, and I never thought that I would get to the point where I wanted to walk away. But, so many relationships were damaged beyond repair, and I just was like, ‘How can I realistically, in an authentic way, kiki with these people ever again?’ I can’t,” she stated. “I genuinely hate some of them, so why would I do that? It would be so fake and phony, and the whole premise of the show is like a group of friends that travels together, hangs out, and fights sometimes.”
“It just got so dark. [And] then they decided not to bring us back anyway, so it worked out,” she added.
As for whether she’s met the new cast, Katie confirmed she has not.
“No. Apparently they, I mean, I know they were doing a little bit of filming something at SUR restaurant last year,” she shared.
No word yet on a premiere date for Vanderpump Rules season 12.
