Kathy Hilton is breaking her silence on her sister Kyle Richards’ separation from husband Mauricio Umansky.
During an appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna with her daughter Paris Hilton, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 64, opened up about her initial reaction to the couple’s separation in July.
“When I first saw it, it just broke my heart,” she told hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb. “Kyle, believe it or not, she’s the youngest, but she’s the strongest, she’s bossiest.”
She called her younger sister “very strong” and “resilient,” adding, “I just want her to be happy.”
When asked if she thought the couple would reconcile, she responded, “There’s no way that Kyle would have gone this far unless she really thought about it.”
Paris, 42, chimed in, “She’s looking hotter than ever though.”
Hilton’s comments come after Richards, 54, and Umansky, 53, celebrated Thanksgiving together despite their marital troubles.
On Thursday, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and the real estate mogul each took to Instagram to share clips of their holiday, which they spent with “15 or 16” other people, Umansky estimated.
Donning an apron, former Dancing with the Stars contestant Umansky filmed a selfie in the kitchen of their sprawling Encino, California, home while Richards seemed to light fuel under chafing dishes. Umansky then panned his phone around the room to show off freshly baked cookies, more turkey and other side dishes, including cranberries.
“We are good!” he exclaimed.
PEOPLE confirmed in July that Richards and Umansky were separating after 27 years of marriage.
“Kyle and Mauricio have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof,” a source close to the couple revealed at the time. “They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”
The pair share three daughters: Alexia, 27, Sophia, 23 and Portia, 15. Richards also shares daughter Farrah Brittany, 34, from her previous marriage to Guraish Aldjufrie.
Shortly after the news broke, Kathy appeared to weigh in on the separation on social media.
She shared a quote originally posted by The Law of Attraction on her Instagram Story. “My mom once told me, ‘Once you are matured, you will realise that silence is more powerful than proving your point.’ And I felt that,” the quote read.
In the following months, both Richards and Umansky have spoken out about their complicated dynamic. Umansky recently took a defensive stance on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast, telling hosts Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, “When I know what I’m doing with my marriage, I will let you guys all know. Until then, everybody can take a hike and f— off.”
He also said he isn’t watching the current season of RHOBH, which shows his marital strain as it unfolded in real time.
“I know that they’re dramatizing everything,” Umansky said. “There’s a bunch of stuff that I don’t really want to see because it will just create more noise for me and more opinions.”
In October, Richards appeared on Watch What Happens Live and told host Andy Cohen that she was the driving force behind their change in marital status: “It originated from me,” she said.
