I’M Thrilled Grey’S Anatomy Season 21’S Complicated Season 20 Finale Resolution Won’T Be A Cop Out

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 left things uncertain for many major characters in the season finale, which is why I am glad that season 21 will offer an immediate resolution. The Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale revealed mass firings at Grey Sloan Memorial, all at the hands of Catherine, the head of the Fox Foundation. The finale also revealed major storylines like the existence of Kwan’s ex-fiance and Jo’s pregnancy, both of which will need to be directly discussed shortly after the season 21 premiere.

Grey’s Anatomy is known for creating dramatic season finales and has shown multiple times that no character is ever safe at Grey Sloan and the mass firings just proved that once again. The new season will have a lot to explain and seeing that Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey will be returning in season 21, the tension in Grey Sloan is sure to be palpable. The tense drama makes me both excited and nervous about the season 21 premiere, and also confident that Grey’s Anatomy season 21 won’t be a cop-out.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Picks Up Not Long After The Season 20 Finale
Season 21 Will Show The Fallout From Season 20

The best part about the upcoming season 21 premiere is that it occurs shortly after the Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale, which means we are going to see the fallout from the season 20 finale. While the most promising part of the season will be seeing the results of the mass firings, I am looking forward to seeing the romantic developments from season 20 expand into season 21. The season finale particularly introduced Beltran and Ndugu as a couple and showed Meredith making a grand gesture to Nick, saying she has put an offer on the Chestnut Hill house in Boston.

The season will also have to show the fallout of the doctors, and potentially the interns, at Grey Sloan losing their jobs. Catherine became the dedicated villain in season 20 and whether there is any way for her to redeem herself will only be revealed in the upcoming season. While season 21 will make some changes to the Grey’s Anatomy cast, most actors are set to return in what is sure to be a dramatic season.

How Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Can Fix Its Complicated Grey Sloan’s Situation
Catherine’s Pride is Grey Sloan’s Worst Enemy

While Catherine’s power trip will be difficult to fix, it is possible. Recent seasons have revealed that Catherine’s cancer is progressing, and it is possible that she will not be able to run the Fox Foundation on her own if the cancer progresses much more. The latest season also hinted at Richard’s ongoing plans for retirement. If Richard retires in season 21, it does open up the possibility for him to take over Catherine’s role in the Fox Foundation, since he is already the Chief Medical Officer of the Foundation. I think Catherine’s replacement might be Grey Sloan’s best bet.

Pride is one of Catherine’s strongest qualities, and unfortunately, I do not think the Grey Sloan situation can be fixed while Catherine holds her powerful position. The only other way that Grey Sloan can recover is if Catherine is fired from her position. But seeing as the Fox Foundation owns over 50% of Grey Sloan, there will need to be some powerful deal to remove her without a fight. Either way, I think it is best to remember that Grey Sloan has always come out on top in Grey’s Anatomy, even after season disasters.
