Married At First Sight UK star Peggy Rose has opened up about her heartbreaking split from Georges Berthonneau, and how fame ‘went to his head’.
The pair appeared to be one of the very few success stories from last year’s series, outlasting Tasha Jay and Paul Liba.
But after the E4 show finished airing, Georges called it quits on their short-lived marriage, which ultimately left Peggy completely devastated.
The 32 year old has now claimed that their relationship went south because Georges became too obsessed with fame.
She explained how their marriage began to fall apart in December last year, shortly after the finale of MAFS aired.
Peggy told The Sun: ‘Boys like attention, especially when boys haven’t had the attention before. I feel they get a bit big headed.
‘He even said to me on the show that he’s been sexually desired by all his ex-girlfriends. Who says that?’
She stated that things got weird around Christmas and that she felt like she needed to follow her gut.
However, she ended up staying with Georges and they travelled to Paris to celebrate her birthday in January this year.
But their sex life suffered, and she confessed it ‘didn’t feel the same’ as Georges wasn’t interested in getting intimate, which led Peggy to believe ‘something’s happened’.
By the end of January, the pair called it quits, but Peggy was left confused when her husband ‘didn’t want to go public with our break-up because he didn’t want to deal with the public opinions and the attention’ because he was ‘heartbroken’.
She said they issued a joint statement together about their relationship coming to an end.
But weeks later – on Valentine’s Day – she went public with evidence that Georges had cheated on her.
The reality star was sent messages, pictures, and videos, from someone who had seen Georges on two dates with another girl in December.
‘You can’t cheat on someone and expect to get away with it,’ she shared. ‘I was heartbroken. I remember crying my eyes out.’
Peggy then admitted that she felt she let her family down as they really thought they could trust Georges and even ended up ‘loving him’.
She sadly confessed ‘it was my decision, my mistakes, and I made my bed, so I’ve got to lay in it’.
Despite the heartbreak, Peggy now believes that it was ‘the best thing that’s ever happened.’
She has found love again with a new man and he shares the same values as she does.
‘He’s just a normal guy, he’s not a millionaire,’ she beamed, as she revealed he also wants children.
‘I was willing to stay with Georges, even though he said he didn’t want kids and kids are a big thing for me… I just hope he’s the one,’ she added.
Georges has strongly denied the cheating allegations made against him.
He fumed: ‘I never cheated on her, it was her actions that pushed me away – the actions we all saw on the show; gaslighting, manipulation, constantly putting me down. It’s boring now.’
