House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Date Target Reportedly Revealed

A House of the Dragon season 2 release date target has reportedly been revealed as Hollywood gets back to work after the writers’ strike. The Game of Thrones prequel show, which premiered in the summer of 2022, chronicles the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons. Five days after its premiere was a massive hit, HBO renewed the series for a second season, which started filming this past spring before the WGA went on strike, and continued throughout the SAG-AFTRA strike since production is under a UK union contract.

Now that the writers’ strike has ended and Hollywood is getting back to work, a new report has revealed a target window for the House of the Dragon season 2 release date. According to Variety, the second season is targeting a summer 2024 premiere, while a House of the Dragon season 3 renewal is also expected. The report also reveals that House of the Dragon season 2 has wrapped filming.

Why The House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Date Is So Soon

The reason why the target window for House of the Dragon season 2 is so soon is because filming has already wrapped. Other HBO shows – such as The Last of Us, Euphoria, and The White Lotus – will also be prioritized now that the writers’ strike is over, though they will have to wait for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike to be resolved before they can start filming. Because of this delay, it’s likely that new seasons of these shows won’t come until late 2024 or early 2025.

The reason why House of the Dragon season 2 was able to continue filming during the SAG-AFTRA strike is because production is under a different union contract. The House of the Dragon cast is comprised almost entirely of UK actors working under a union called Equity. While many of its members support the SAG-AFTRA strike by lawful means, because of the UK’s strict labor laws, they aren’t legally allowed to strike in solidarity.

House of the Dragon season 2 has narrowly avoided any delays due to the dual strikes. The scripts were already completed before the WGA strike, and its UK-based production was entirely unaffected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. House of the Dragon season 2 was able to conduct business as usual while much of Hollywood was shut down, so a summer 2024 premiere is what has been expected all along for the big-budget HBO show.
