Grey’S Anatomy Season 20 Is Not Coming To Abc In June 2023

On ABC, Grey’s Anatomy is a mainstay. Since it has been airing on the network for twenty years, the medical drama doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Even though Ellen Pompeo is leaving the show, the outstanding cast and the hiring of Meg Marinis as the new showrunner indicate that there is still plenty of steam left in the engine.

Fans will regrettably not be able to learn for themselves in June. Due to the conclusion of its nineteenth season, Grey’s Anatomy won’t be returning this month. It will be off for the future months as writers finish up the scripts for the upcoming season, as is the case with most autumn shows.

Is Grey’s Anatomy season 20 cancelled?

Pompeo’s aforementioned exit is going to shake things up, but Grey’s showunner Shonda Rhimes is confident that there’s still plenty of exciting story lines to explore.

“I might be a very old lady by the time we reach its last season because it doesn’t seem to be stopping,” Rhimes told Deadline. “Which is wonderful, and I feel the world really belongs to the fans, and the fans have been really clear about what they want.”

The only real impetus to the upcoming season is the writer’s strike. There’s no suggestion that the writer’s strike will be ending anytime soon, and some even theorize that it could stretch until the end of the summer, which means that all scripted dramas will have to delay their premiere dates.

If this turns out to be true, then Grey’s Anatomy will end up airing later in the year than it usually does. That’s a sacrifice that Rhimes is fine making. The showrunner told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s in total support of the strike and what it’s trying to achieve.

“I really wish that we didn’t have to be on strike,” she explained. “I feel the pain of the people who are dealing with the strike, but for me, for writers to get paid for what they do in a fair way is far more important.”
