Grey’S Anatomy Season 20 Is Not Coming To Abc In July 2023

Grey’s Anatomy needs no introduction. The medical drama has been at the forefront of network TV for two decades, and has been responsible for more shocking moments than whole franchises of other shows combined.

It is, however, headed for some big changes. Grey’s Anatomy will be without its titular character, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), for the very first time, and fans are curious to see how the show will fare without her. Unfortunately, they will have to wait for a while.

Is Grey’s Anatomy renewed for season 20?

Grey’s Anatomy is not returning to ABC in July. The medical drama recently wrapped up its 19th season on the network, and like all shows, it will be taking several months off before coming back to the air.

Generally speaking, Grey’s Anatomy will premiere in September, along with the rest of ABC’s fall lineup, but the writers strike, coupled with the impending actors strike, has complicated matters. Because the writers strike has shown no signs of slowing down, and shows can’t proceed without them, ABC has decided to scrap all of its scripted dramas for the rest of 2023.

This means that shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor will not premiere in September 2023, as was initially planned, but during the mid-season in 2024. This also means that the shows will be running on a shortened schedule, and will therefore have less episodes than usual.

So far, ABC is the only network to take such a drastic measure. NBC and CBS have not yet made their plans for the fall clear, so it’s possible they are holding out for hope that the writers strike will be resolved in time for shows like Chicago Fire and Law and Order to make their premiere dates.

As it stands, Grey’s Anatomy fans will have plenty of time watch reruns of season 19.
