The doctor is not currently in, and won’t be for some time. Get ready for a lengthy summer hiatus as Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 is delayed.

Back in May, we had an idea that we would be in for a length summer break. The writers went on strike, and that meant a lot of shows couldn’t film. Grey’s Anatomy was one of those shows, and it wasn’t too surprising when we saw ABC come out with a strike-proof fall.

Well, now the actors have joined the fight. With both writers and actors on strike, production isn’t happening any time soon. Don’t expect many of your favorite scripted shows to return this year. Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 will definitely not premiere in 2023.

When will Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premiere on ABC?

As of right now, we can’t say when the show will return. All we can say right now is not to expect it before January 2024. There is no guarantee it will come back right away in the new year, though. It all depends on how long the strike goes on for. This is going to be a long one.

ABC opted for a strike-proof fall, so we’ve known since May that we wouldn’t see the 20th season of the medical drama. No scripted shows are coming back in the fall. ABC opted for a lineup of reality shows and game shows, and we can’t blame the network for doing this. It immediately created certainty for the advertisers and meant fans weren’t constantly needing to keep an eye on the strike developments.

We don’t know what type of storylines to expect in the new season, though. All we know right now is that most of the main cast is returning. Ellen Pompeo and Kelly McCreary are out, but their characters have been written out in a way that would allow them to return now and then similar to how Debbie Allen and Jesse Williams come back into the show now and then.

We’ll be sure to keep and eye on things as the strike progresses to get an idea of when to expect Grey’s Anatomy Season 20.
