Circling the most iconic moments always works, right?
It’s not enough to have yet another medical drama on our television screens, Shonda Rhimes probably thought, and added almost a whole ladle of romance to her now extremely popular show.
This decision was probably one of the best, because it gave the Grey’s Anatomy the necessary flavor and made it so unique.
The fact that the characters of the show had their own dramas and missteps during the 19 seasons of the show just added a true-to-life feeling to the show and made it all believable.
For example, the main female character of the show, Meredith Grey, who was so amazingly portrayed by Ellen Pompeo, had her share of unfortunate romances. Starting with the love of her life who died in the middle of the show.
Actually, her romance was not so easy for Meredith. True fans remember a heartbreaking scene that still sends shivers down their spines. In season 2, Grey was caught in a love triangle with Derek and Addison, his ex.
The moment itself seemed pretty desperate. Meredith had to beg Derek to choose her in the triangle they were in. And frankly, as Pompeo later admitted, she was shocked that her character would do that on TV.
But to her delight, and certainly to the delight of the show’s fans, just before she left the show in season 19, Meredith showed off her tremendous character growth in a scene obviously related to the iconic one in season 2.
The desperate “pick me, love me” magically turned into “I want you in my life if you want to be in my life. But if I have to choose, I’m going to pick me.”
This was exactly what Meredith told Nick after she decided to move her family out of Seattle to support her children.
Fans immediately recognized that this was a huge improvement for Pompeo’s character. She was finally starting to put herself first. And no relationship or work responsibilities could stop her now.
