This character could bring so much more good to the show.

Grey’s Anatomy made Shondaland and its producers not only loved but also feared by many viewers for their famous way of writing characters off in the most heartbreaking ways.

We all remember George O’Malley, Mark Sloan, Lexie Grey, and of course Derek Shepherd.

But not every sad farewell was death related.

Izzie Stevens’ exit from the show came as a shock to many fans who had already fallen in love with the character and saw her as one of the most promising residents at the hospital.

Although she had some very messy storylines, viewers were willing to forgive her just to see the character develop and grow.

In addition to being a genuinely interesting character with a sweet and likable personality, Izzie proved to be an incredible mentor to the new interns.

Already affected by her own frightening diagnosis, she saw an opportunity to both teach the newbies something truly important and to make a difference in their neglected education.
Motivated by her own struggles, Stevens still showed a level of thoughtfulness and strength that no one else did, and made the episode memorable for fans.

As did her conversation with Lexie Grey at the end of the episode. Many believe that had Katherine Heigl not decided to leave the show so early, Izzie could have become the new Biley for the interns.

She had all the potential to be a great teacher, and it was especially sad to see her leave without ever fulfilling it.

Although fans are happy to know that she is now living her best life with Alex Karev and her twins far away from Grey Sloan Memorial, they can’t help but wonder how different things could have been.

If you are feeling nostalgic and want to relive the days of Grey’s Anatomy’s MAGIC in all its glory, you can re-watch the show online on ABC, or stream it on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus.
