Grey’S Anatomy Fans Band Together Against ‘Mistreated’ Character In Controversy Debate

Grey’s Anatomy’s cast failed to treat a key character with as much respect as many viewers feel that they deserved.

The ABC and Disney+ medical drama is nearing the end of season 20 in the UK with the future still looking bright following the announcement that there will be a series 21.

But with the entire wealth of the iconic show on the streamer, subscribers often cannot help delving into previous seasons which remind fans of gone but not forgotten characters.

In a recent Reddit thread, a user wanted to know what other fans’ “most controversial take” on Grey’s Anatomy was.

Kicking off the conversation, they talked about the story of former attending trauma surgeon April Kepner (played by Sarah Drew) who didn’t always have the easiest time at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

They wrote: “For me, it’s that April was so mistreated by everyone especially when she was introduced again after the whole firing thing.

“Everyone is so rude to her and makes fun of her because she is Christian and a virgin, and only edgy people are cool in the show.”

And unsurprisingly, this viewer wasn’t the only one who found that the treatment of April throughout the show was unfair to say the least.

“I hated how everyone, especially Cristina, were always making fun of April for being a virgin and a Christian,” someone commented.

“When Cristina said to Alex to go take her virginity I hated her, maybe I’m just biased because April is my fav character, but honestly I’m surprised that Cristina is a fan fav. I mean, I get it because I’ve grown to like her, but she was just so awful at times!”

Another agreed: “Absolutely love April. People on this sub say she wasn’t bullied like are you blind they were so rude to her and made her feel like s*** especially when she became chief resident her treatment just got worse.”

A third also wrote: “I don’t really like April but how everyone talked about her was disappointing.

“It was fine that she was a virgin, didn’t stop her patient care, didn’t stop her from being a good friend, family member, etc. the bullying was just mean.”

April was previously married to Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) who she shares deceased son Samuel with as well as daughter Harriet Kepner-Avery.

When their relationship didn’t work out, she went on to marry Matthew Taylor (Justin Bruening) but this was short-lived.

Following their split, she ended up moving to Boston with Jackson and their daughter where the pair rekindled their relationship, much to fans’ delight.

Grey’s Anatomy is available to watch on ABC and Disney+.
