In the Days of our Lives recap for July 27, 2023, Paulina issues her impersonator a stinging condemnation…and one heck of a smack.
Days of our Lives Recap Highlights
In addition, Theo considers that he contributed to Abe’s woes, Lani (Sal Stowers) bids her loved ones farewell, and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) refuses to see what’s right in front of her face. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Days of our Lives Recap: A Fine Mess
At University Hospital, Paulina (Jackée Harry) was heartened when Abe (James Reynolds) regained consciousness — and then immediately deflated when he wondered who she was and where his wife was.
Paulina did her best to apprise Abe of the facts, but it took some doing. For a time, all Abe could remember was fake Paulina (AKA Whitley King), but slowly things began to dawn on him. If what Paulina was saying was true, then that would explain why he was never free to leave the apartment. And that would explain why he remembered jumping the broom with the woman sitting beside him.
Unfortunately, that’s all the memories Abe could muster. Everything else was still a complete blank. He couldn’t recall anything more about Paulina, he mistook Theo (Cameron Johnson) for Brandon, and rather than remember Lani (Sal Stowers) as his daughter, she was merely the nice lady that rode to his rescue.
Opposite this, Marlena (Deidre Hall) paid Whitley (Kim Coles) a visit down at the police station. For a brief moment, Whitley confused her former co-worker and former therapist with Charlemagne Delacroix, the queen diva of her favorite soap opera. Luckily, Marlena set her straight.
Marlena endeavored to get to the root of the reason Whitley absconded with Abe and pretended to be Paulina, and it boiled down to Whitley wanting to be someone other than herself. Anybody, really. Because she doesn’t want to be Whitley King.
Being Whitley King means that she killed her real husband. Being Whitley King means that she’s a bad person. Being Whitley King means that she has nothing to live for.
Marlena pressed on, and just when it seemed like she might really be getting somewhere, in busted Paulina. Whitley gave a sincere apology for her actions, and Paulina responded by slapping her across the face. HARD. “I just want this bitch to know that she can’t undo all the damage that she’s caused with just ‘I’m sorry.’ It’s going to take a Hell of a lot more than that. A Hell of a lot more.”
DAYS Recap: Tempting Fate
Back at the hospital, Theo — who’d earlier debated with Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) whether or not Abe’s predicament was Karmic justice for how he’d courted Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and done his best to keep her away from Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) — bid Lani and Eli (Lamon Archey) adieu.
Lani reminded her little brother that it was only six months till she was up for parole, and he assured her that Abe would have his memories back by then. He hopes. Then again, Kayla did caution that there is a chance it might not happen. A slim chance, but a chance nonetheless.
DOOL Recap: Can’t Hurry Love
Meanwhile, Gwen caught Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Dimitri (Peter Porte) in a most compromising position, but they managed to convince her that Leo had merely been assisting Dimitri in trying on a much more pizzazz-y suit. Well, kind of. What Gwen was actually convinced of was that Leo had manipulated her fiancé into a state of undress for funsies. As if Dimitri could ever actually fit into one of Leo’s medium numbers. (Nor his collection of “Women’s Large.”)
Their secret safe (for now), Dimitri headed back to the DiMera mansion while Leo remained by Gwen’s side. The besties gorged on cake and ruminated on how she’d finally found a man whom she absolutely adored and who adored her back. She also expressed the hope that Leo can now see how very right she and Dimitri are for each other and how happy he makes her. He can, and that makes him happy (and a whole lot guiltier).
