In the Days of our Lives recap for August 14, 2023, Victor Kiriakis’s nephew was dealt a most devastating blow.
Days of our Lives Recap Highlights
In addition, Li (Remington Hoffman) and Melinda (Tina Huang) are given food for thought, and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) forces Brady (Eric Martsolf) to accept their new normal. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Days of our Lives Recap: No Hope
At the Kiriakis compound, the flummoxed assemblage grasped for answers. Is it possible that Victor’s plane crashed? Is it possible that the aircraft is still somewhere in the sky?
Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) granted that Victor hadn’t filed a flight plan as the facility treating Bo was in an undisclosed location — a precaution taken given Megan’s (Miranda Wilson) obsession with him. (How like Victor to air on the side of caution.)
Despite knowing that it was a long shot, Maggie called Victor’s mobile. As expected, straight to voicemail. Xander (Paul Telfer) then floated the idea that Victor had extended his trip because there had been some improvement in Bo’s condition. The rub? Maggie didn’t have the number to Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) burner phone. Luckily, she knew someone who did.
Cut to Maggie phoning Shawn (Brandon Beemer). He was listening, mouth agape, to Belle (Martha Madison) relay how Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) was seriously considering Xander’s marriage proposal. When he answered Maggie’s call, she begged him to get in touch with his mother.
Unfortunately for Victor’s concerned loved ones, he hadn’t extended his stay. In fact, he’d left early. As in three days ago. While Justin hurried to phone Shane at the ISA, Maggie encouraged Xander and Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) to head home. Nothing they could do there.
After bidding the boys farewell — and expertly avoiding coming clean to Xander about Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) pregnancy — Maggie retired to her and Victor’s bedroom. Minutes later Justin received an update: the Coast Guard had found wreckage from a Titan jet somewhere over the Mediterranean. No word yet on any survivors.
DAYS Recap: Guilty Party
Meanwhile, Li swung by the DiMera manse to personally deliver Gabi (Camila Banus) and Stefan’s (Brandon Barash) wedding present, but Gabi wasn’t inclined to accept it. This disappointed Li as he was sure he’d convinced Gabi that he wasn’t the one behind the attempt on Stefan’s life and he’d been hoping the three of them could become friends.
Gabi assured Li that would never, ever happen, then groused that he was probably feeling invincible seeing as how he was “screwing the D.A.” Li assured Gabi that wasn’t the case and expressed disappointment that he hadn’t carried any favor with Gabi despite his very real attempts to move on.
Opposite this, Stefan barreled into Melinda’s office and demanded to know what she intended to do about Li. The answer? Not much, considering there’s no proof — and Melinda wants a smoking gun before she goes gunning for a second time.
Stefan wondered if a lack of evidence was the only reason Melinda wasn’t pressing the issue or if it was because she was now dating Li. Melinda insisted that wasn’t the case. Also, how did Stefan even know she’d seen Li on two occasions? Is he spying on her? Hardly! He’d gotten his information the same way all the good people of Salem did: Lady Whistleblower’s column.
Melinda admitted that it had been rather nice to have her feelings (seemingly) returned — for once — but, following her and Li’s second, unplanned, date, he’d gone radio silent. Stefan then encouraged Melinda to “get creative” and do whatever she can within the law to put Li someplace where he can’t ever hurt him and Gabi again.
They don’t want to spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Melinda doesn’t want to someday attend his funeral, does she? Depends. “Will it be on a weekend or a weekday?”
DOOL Recap: Settling In
At Xander and Chloe’s abode, Chloe blasted Brady for pulling her into an unsolicited smooch. Brady apologized…but insisted he’d only laid one on her because he can still feel the pull between them.
Brady then wondered if there was a possibility that he could talk her out of marrying “that creep,” a proposition that Chloe found distasteful. Xander might be many things — stubborn, arrogant, and impulsive came to her mind — and yes, he’s done some terrible things in the past, but she’s gotten to know a man who’s kind, generous, and who listens.
But does she love him? That Chloe couldn’t answer. And that convinced Brady that what she and his cousin have can’t hold a candle to what they once shared, and it prompted him to make the following plea:
“Chloe Lane, I love you. I’m pretty sure you love me too, so all that’s left to do is for you to tell this guy who has conned his way into making you believe that he has changed and doesn’t deserve one more tender moment with you, much less a lifetime, just tell him to take a hike. And please, for the love of God, come back to me.”
Unfortunately for Brady, right now, the man that Chloe wants to be with is Xander. Chloe is, however, willing to extend the hand of friendship — which Brady just about snaps off. Enter Xander to fill Brady in on Victor’s plight.
Days of our Lives Recap: Revert To Type
Back at Casa DiMera, Stefan and Gabi waterlogged Li’s ticking token and then learned that it was merely a timepiece. Gabi insisted it was still a message as giving a clock as a gift is considered bad luck in Chinese culture. Essentially, it’s wishing someone dead.
Speaking of Li — having been reminded by Gabi that it would probably pay to have Melinda well and truly on his side — he tracked the lady D.A. down and apologized for ghosting her. Melinda, seemingly deciding to play the long game to try and ensnare and entrap Li (with the fringe benefit of a little sexy time), accepted his proposal and bid him join her.
