According to statistics, an average US police officer never even gets to use their gun throughout their entire career, but one Blue Bloods character wants no part in this stats.
While the real-life data shows that most cops don’t even use their guns, and a retired police officer typically has a body count of no more than four, it seems that the Reagan family makes up for the entire country’s worth of non-shooting cops.
With a shootout every other episode, the Reagans are constantly in action, some more than others.
Danny Reagan in particular is, apparently, a one-man army. In one of the episodes, he kills 14 (!) people all by himself, and he’s the type of gun enthusiast who’s always down for shooting.
Especially in the earlier seasons, Danny was always getting into a gunfight, and he only recently managed to calm down a bit.
If you watch the series closely, you’ll bet everything you own that Danny killed more people as a city cop than he did as a US marine in a warzone.
This dude is reckless, and even though he’s not the only Reagan who kills on his job, his body count is probably around 70% of that of the entire family.
This is almost a running gag at this point, especially considering how Frank Reagan loves to quote statistics about 95% of cops never having used their guns.
But it’s also the same Frank Reagan who has a shootout story of his own for every time Danny gets in a gunfight.
Apparently, Frank was just as gun-happy as Danny back in his days.
Some fans even decided to start a rewatch of the entire show to calculate just how many people have been killed by Danny and other Reagans throughout all seasons, which is an indication of the amount in itself.
Frankly, the reasons for such a ridiculous body count are obvious: if Blue Bloods was strictly about the police administrative work.
It would’ve never been as popular as Blue Bloods with shootouts every other episode. Such a show needs action, after all.
Also, Danny may be something of an amalgamation of stories of various officers who could realistically get in a gunfight.
If it weren’t for him and his series-long killing spree, Blue Bloods must have been an anthology with different detectives featured in each episode which would’ve completely defeated the point of the cop-family show.
