CBS’ Blue Bloods, which is currently airing season 13, is renewed for season 14 with the main cast including Tom Selleck set to return. Blue Bloods is gearing up for another season, with the main cast set to return. The series, which is currently in the middle of airing season 13, follows the Reagan family, a dynasty of law enforcement officers led by patriarch Frank (Tom Selleck). The series, which was nominated for an Emmy in 2013, premiered on CBS in 2010 and has now aired 269 episodes.

Per Deadline, Blue Bloods season 14 has been renewed ahead of the season 13 finale on May 19. Selleck is set to return for the new season, along with the rest of the main cast. This includes The Sixth Sense’s Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, Coyote Ugly’s Bridget Moynahan as ADA Erin Reagan, and American Dreams’ Will Estes as Officer/Sergeant Jamie Reagan.

Has Blue Bloods Officially Become Tom Selleck’s Most Iconic Role?

Tom Selleck is an iconic performer who has held many roles since his career began in the late 1960s. However, for quite some time, his most iconic performance was in the title role of the crime show Magnum, P.I. That show, which lasted for eight seasons and a total of 158 episodes, provided Selleck with his breakout role and earned him five Emmy nominations.

Although this might have been different had George Lucas stuck to his guns after he initially cast Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, before Blue Bloods began, the only other Selleck role that could have rivaled Magnum, P.I. for longevity was Jesse Stone. He has played the character in nine Robert B. Parker-adapted television movies spanning from 2005 through 2015, with another reportedly on the way. However, even though his Magnum, P.I. role is likely what landed him the gig on Blue Bloods, the CBS drama has outlived any other role of his.

Now that Blue Bloods is set to run for even longer, it is approaching double the episode count of Magnum, P.I. The role has dominated Selleck’s career for the last decade and a half, and its continued popularity would seem to indicate that it is now the one that most households would likely associate with the iconic performer. While most performers are lucky just to have one iconic role on their resume, Selleck’s commitment to his parts, even into his late 70s, has earned him this second, even bigger honor.
