Annemarie Wiley opened up about her adoption after being seen letting go of the negative feelings she was carrying concerning her biological mother during Sutton Stracke‘s ash-spreading ceremony for Merce Cunningham on Wednesday night’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
After releasing the toxic feelings she’d been carrying for years, Annemarie, 41, shared her adoption story on the After Show, confirming that her biological mother had chosen a “closed adoption” and requested that she never attempt to reach out to her.
“I was still in my feelings about [Crystal Kung-Minkoff] and I was like, ‘You know what? At this point, it is what it is.’ I did that, and I did my biological mom because I was adopted and I was adopted when I was 2 weeks old, and my biological mother had given me up for adoption because she felt she was not equipped to take care of me, and she wanted me to be in a better situation,” Annemarie began on the February 7 episode of the RHOBH: After Show.
In addition to requesting a closed adoption for Annemarie, the RHOBH newbie‘s mom put something in her documents that “asked for [Annemarie] to never try to contact her, which [she has] not done.”
Although Annemarie never attempted to reach out to her biological mother directly, she did contact her biological aunt, but to no avail.
“I did the genetic testing years ago, and I received an email that said I had a really close relative. It was showing that it would’ve been my mother’s sister. So admittedly, I was kind of excited and I messenged her and I said something to the effect of ‘I’m 41 years old. I was born in Edmonton at this hospital on this day. My mother gave me up for adoption. I’m just wondering if you know of me, if you know of my existence at all. I would love to reach out and find out any information that I could,’” Annemarie recalled.
But the woman did not get back to her. Instead, she made sure Annemarie would not be able to contact her again.
“She blocked me,” Annemarie shared, starting to cry.
Because Annemarie is now a mom herself, and can’t imagine having birthed one of her children and not being with them, she sometimes wonders if her biological mother still doesn’t want her to reach out.
“Does she still mean that? Is she somewhere saying, ‘I wish I had never asked my daughter to find me?’ Or has she completely moved on?” Annemarie asked. “And is the woman that was supposed to be my aunt, was that telling that she still doesn’t want me to find her?”
“I can’t control that my biological mother wanted to put me up for adoption. I can only control my reaction to it and how I live my life going forward. So that’s what I let go of,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
