Every fan of The Young and the Restless has their own opinion — and we at Soap Hub are no different. We watched the show…good, bad, and everything else all week. We’re always optimistic, but sometimes we don’t get quite what we want. Here’s a review of Y&R’s week including every perplexing, confusing, what in the world is going on second of it.
This Week I’m Feeling: Chance and Claire (Not Together, Of Course)
Chance
I never thought that moving Chance (Conner Floyd) from cop to the corporate world would be an entertaining transition, but you know what? I like it. Maybe because he says things like, “C-suite players can be just as slippery as criminals.” Plus, he doesn’t hold back even though he’s a newbie and he points out all the political BS going on in the office. It’s amusing to me.
Meanwhile, Chance’s romance with Summer (Allison Lanier) is refreshing simply because there’s not a lot of drama to it. They’re no longer involved in a triangle with Sharon (Sharon Case). What we see are two people whose feelings are developing at the same pace. And while I don’t think I’d be upset if this pairing ended tomorrow, I’m cool with it for now.
Claire
Once Claire (Hayley Erin) got past the whole helping crazy Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) kill the Newmans, I’ve been on board with this character. Now she’s living on the Newman ranch, and she’s a character you can tell is doing the work to improve herself. She’s facing her demons and she’s trying to undo all the toxicity Jordan created in her life. Do I think she’s on the hundred percent up and up? I don’t know but I hope so.
While Jordan is, once again, creating chaos with the Newmans and burning down Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) house, Claire is calm and cool. She’s distracting Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) from drinking and telling stories about Nadia from the hospital. She’s thinking about her future and even thinking about meeting her siblings. It’s cool to see her coming along. Of course, her mom tries to dissuade her from talking to Adam (Mark Grossman), but I hope those two will get to talk one day soon. And I mean a chat where Adam doesn’t have his infamous walls up. All in all, Claire continues to be a welcome presence. Can’t wait until she can venture out into Genoa City more.
Other Y&R Thoughts
What’s Going On? Part 1: Oh Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). She tried one more time with Danny (Michael Damian) and, once again, disastrous results ensued. Then she did her due diligence and paid through the roof to get Society for the evening (Well, 10:00 pm and on). She even talked, nay, she pleaded with Abby (Melissa Ordway) in order to make it happen. Abby didn’t make it easy on her. Of course, Danny somehow roped in Christine (Lauralee Bell) and there was an awkward confrontation when all Phyllis wanted to do was taste some of Danny’s sauce (ugh). This whole triangle throwback was messy and if it really does end up with Danny and Christine on tour I’m good. I just need all parties to move on. Unfortunately, it didn’t sound like Phyllis’s modus operandi to do that. She can’t let Christine the Bug win like that.
What’s Going On? Part 2: Oh Ashley (Eileen Davidson, one of soap’s most independent women). Are we closer to calling this a DID or a brain tumor story? Is that why we were subjected to her going to Tucker’s (Trevor St. John) hotel room wanting to get back together with him? Also, does she want to go back to PARIS with him? She should want to stay away from Paris for a long time! When she returns home at the end of Friday’s episode, she basically tells Jack (Peter Bergman) she is done with Tucker. Does Ashley have a doppelganger? Is there a clone of her? What’s going on? Please, Josh Griffith, move this story along. I’ve been saying this every week, but this week, I mean it.
Growth and Development: Nate (Sean Dominic) says power grabs are behind him. Do we believe him? Did his first round at CW plus his Newman stint, break him? He’s honestly content with the “power” he has right now. I’m shocked. But also, Devon (Bryton James) might want to listen to him about Mamie (Veronica Redd). Aunt Mamie wants to burn down the company and divide it into different factions because she’s talking about getting Chance to their side. Does she want everybody to go their separate ways? Is that her endgame? Do you know what I think needs to happen? As much as I LOVE Amanda (Mishael Morgan) being around, I think Jill (Jess Walton) needs to get to Genoa City ASAP.
Poor Seth: Jordan had no problem pushing Seth (Brian Gaskill) into oncoming traffic. I really wish there had been more buildup to this death. The pacing with this character was a little off, but it did seem that, ultimately, this was where it would lead.
Mariah and Tessa: Can this show play the Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) life beats, please? We see glimpses of their life here and there. This week, they decided to move into their own place and away from the Newman Ranch. Who wants to bet the next time we see them, they’ve already closed on a place, bought new furniture, moved in, and renovated it?
Random Comments and Burning Y&R Questions
-Why is Billy (Jason Thompson) with Adam and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) at Connor’s School? Unnecessary.
-Did you notice some of the music they played during Phyllis’s scenes sounded a bit comedic? Like she thinks she’s the center of her own sitcom?
-Devon thinks Billy’s the problem. Nate thinks Mamie’s the problem at Chancellor-Winters. Who do you think is the problem? And who do you think Lily (Christel Khalil) will think is the problem?
-I’m confused by Abby going after Tucker in his hotel room. The conversation feels like it should have happened a week or two earlier.
-Who is Ashley’s friend in Paris? Does she have a friend in Paris? I’m not convinced!
-OMG the story Nikki told her AA group was all true. All I wanted to see were the faces of everybody in the group. Were they believing everything she said? Because it all sounded so far-fetched. And if Jordan ends up d-e-a-d then her telling everybody she wants that woman to die behind bars, I don’t know, it’s not a good look.
-Um…does anybody know where in the world Sharon is? Is she working on her new company? Off finding a new adventure? Her story of choosing herself, working on herself, and rebuilding herself is a story I personally loved, but now it hasn’t gone anywhere. I see Soap Twitter addressing this issue all the time and I completely agree. I hope we’re about to SPRING into a great story for Sharon. There goes my optimistic thinking again. Can she and Lily team up for something great?
