The Young and the Restless star Melody Thomas Scott can attest to there’s getting off the backburner, and then there’s being thrown into an inferno! After way too long of Nikki Newman, played by Scott, acting as her family “talk to,” the character has got lots of storyline.
Melody Thomas Scott: Nikki Getting Even
Viewers weren’t quite sure where the story was going with Nikki’s adoring new assistant, Claire Grace (Hayley Erin), and then they realized that Claire is bad news after she kidnapped Nikki. It’s one thing to hold her captive but quite another to drug her with vodka, given that she’s a recovering alcoholic. Now, Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) has appeared. This story has more to it than meets the eye and is already shaping up to be one of Y&R’s biggest.
If At First You Don’t Succeed
Nikki’s already failed in one attempt to escape, but given the Newman matriarch’s fierceness, we suspect it won’t be her last. “Nikki’s a fighter, so we will see her do her very best to escape Claire’s — and her partner in crime’s [Aunt Jordan, played by Colleen Zenk] — clutches,” Scott tells TV Insider. “Nobody crosses Nikki Newman, so Nikki looks forward to teaching Claire that lesson sooner rather than later.”
It may feel like Nikki’s predicament can’t get worse. However, it will if her family — Victor (Eric Braeden), Victoria (Nicholas), and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) — are threatened. “Nikki’s captors take glee in threatening her family, which makes Nikki fearful for their safety,” says Scott. “However, Nikki does know that Victor will stop at nothing once he learns that Nikki is in peril.”
Melody Thomas Scott: Cry Us A River
While fans like seeing Nikki in the forefront, it has been rather painful to watch her being tortured this particular way. (Hey, if soaps don’t make you feel they’re not doing their job, right?) Alas, there’s no guarantee that Nikki — or her family, for that matter (given next week’s preview) — will get out of this jam. “Things will get much worse for Nikki before they get better,” previews Scott.
