It may have only been a fantasy blip on The Young and the Restless, but Summer imagined herself telling Sharon Newman that she’s got feelings for Chance, and doesn’t plan to give up on trying to steal him from his current love. Was, um, Sharon supposed to feel threatened by that? Or by Phyllis encouraging her daughter to ignore Sharon’s feelings and, if the heart wants what the heart wants, go after Chance? Sharon has so been there, done that. And come out the winner nearly each and every time.
Sharon Newman Is No Runner Up
We do believe that Nick (Joshua Morrow) has feelings for Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Certainly stronger feelings that he ever had for Sally (Courtney Hope), or Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), or the late, unremembered Sage. But Nick’s feelings for Phyllis were nothing compared to his feelings for Sharon (Sharon Case). And never would be. Sharon was able to fight Phyllis for Nick. And she’ll have no trouble doing the same when it comes to Chance (Conner Floyd) and Summer (Allison Lanier) — if she feels like it.
Faded Copy
If Phyllis was a challenge, Summer is barely an inconvenience. She is everything Phyllis isn’t. Not that it’s a bad thing. Summer is a much, much nicer person than her mother. Even if she did have to blackmail Kyle (Michael Mealor) into marriage — the first time. The point is, Summer isn’t as bad as Phyllis to get what she wants, and she isn’t as good as Sharon so that she looks like a better alternative. Summer is simply…nothing
All Hail the Queen
And what does it say about Sharon that she has effortlessly managed to attract a pair of men wanted by two generations of women? You know how in Dazed and Confused, Matthew McConaughey said about dating high school girls, “I get older, they stay the same?” Phyllis has gotten older. She needs her daughter to now fight her battles for her — in more ways than one. Sharon, on the other hand, has stayed the same.
