Why Is Days Of Our Lives Undermining Victims’ Testimony?

The same week when Days of our Lives showcased a video of Rachel lying (albeit unwittingly) about her mother physically abusing her, we also saw Xander remind Theresa of how she’d once falsely accused him of rape. This echoed the past story of Leo lying that Sonny sexually harassed him. Of course, Leo was free to scheme to avoid being punished for yet another of his sleazy crimes. In other words, the Powers That Be may believe they are progressive and on the right side of history folks who totes #AlwaysBelieveWomen (and other marginalized-by-society victims). But, in reality, they are anything but.

Days of our Lives: The Little People

Children do lie about abuse, many of those children were manipulated by adults…which is exactly what happened with Rachel (Finley Rose Slater). She fell victim to the antics of Gabi (Camila Banus), and Stefan (Brandon Barash). Unfortunately, for every adult who fabricates a child abuse case in order to win custody or score a political point, there are dozens of people dedicated to protecting children and getting them out of horrific situations. DAYS just made their jobs harder.

DAYS: He Said, He Said

When Leo (Greg Rikaart) accused Sonny (Zach Tinker) of sexual harassment, it wasn’t a genuine misunderstanding resulting from a consensual relationship gone bad. He was doing it exclusively for blackmail purposes, and because he didn’t appreciate not being adored in a manner Leo believed he was entitled to. This happens. However, for every adult who fabricates a sexual harassment case to get revenge or score a political point, there are dozens of people dedicated to protecting the powerless from the powerful. DAYS just made their jobs harder.

Days of our Lives: Asking For It

When Xander (Paul Telfer) reminded Theresa (Emily O’Brien) of how she falsely accused him of rape, Theresa just shrugged it off as old news not even worth talking about. This happens. But, for every woman or man who fabricates a rape case to get revenge, blackmail, or score a political point, there are dozens of people dedicated to protecting the victims of sexual violence. DAYS just made their jobs harder.
