Blue Bloods Season 14 Release Updates, Strike News, Cast, And Everything We Know So Far

14 seasons into its run, Blue Bloods remains a staple on CBS’s primetime schedule as one of the network’s most-watched dramas. While the series is an amazing crime drama, what has always set the show aside from the rest in the crowded field is the Reagan family, a multigenerational family of cops.

The Reagans are the first family of the NYDC led by the family’s patriarch, New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. Through their various roles in law enforcement, the Reagans protect and serve the great city of New York in their own unique ways with law enforcement being the family business.

14 seasons in, the show is just as beloved by fans who are eager to know what to expect from the next season. Below, we share everything we know about Blue Bloods season 14. As we learn more information, we’ll update this story. The latest update was on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Blue Bloods season 14 premiere date has been affected by the strikes

Blue Bloods is among the many broadcast series which has been affected by both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Like most scripted series, production on Blue Bloods was delayed due to the strikes as production could not begin with the writers and actors on strike.

With the writers’ strike now over, production on season 14 is expected to be underway. While CBS has not yet confirmed that the writers’ room for the show has been opened, Deadline has reported that CBS has already opened writers’ rooms for several of its hit series and Blue Bloods is likely to be among them.

While the actors are still on strike, this is a major first step as it allows the creative process to begin which entails mapping out the season and writing scripts. This will help ensure that episodes will be ready to shoot once the SAG strike ends which will allow cameras to begin rolling.

At this time, CBS has yet to announce a release date for Blue Bloods season 14; however, we do know the show’s next season will not be coming in 2023. While CBS originally intended to premiere season 14 as part of its fall lineup, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have pushed the show’s return back to early 2024.

Currently, it’s expected that the earliest we could see season 14 premiere would be in February or March. The exact timing will be dependent upon when the strikes and how quickly the show will be able to enter production.

  • Andrew Terraciano as Sean Reagan
  • Vanessa Ray as Eddie Janko

How many episodes is Blue Bloods season 14 going to be?

While most seasons of Blue Bloods consist of 20-22 episodes, season 14 is expected to be the show’s shortest season yet with the season expected to consist of 10-15 episodes. An exact episode order should come to light once filming is able to begin on the season; however, most networks are looking at shorter seasons following the WGA strikes which delayed production on scripted broadcast originals.

A 10-15 episode order will make season 14 the shortest season of Blue Bloods yet as even during the pandemic the show was able to turn out a 16-episode season. Still, 10-15 episodes is far better than the alternative which could have seen the show held back until the 2024-25 season.
