There are so, so many reasons why Young and the Restless made the wrong call when they had Sally Spectra and Adam’s baby die. First and foremost, the majority of those watching soap operas are women. Many of them are mothers.
Young and the Restless: A Misfire
Mothers don’t enjoy watching stories about dead children. This has been proved over and over again by ratings on all the shows. But that still wasn’t the biggest reason this was a huge mistake. The biggest reason was their throwing away what could have been years of story.
Sally Spectra: Three’s a Crowd
Baby Ava Hope would have kept Sally (Courtney Hope) and Adam (Mark Grossman) connected forever. Even if they never got back together, he would still be a thorn in her and Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) relationship. All soap relationships need thorns. Otherwise, they’re boring. Sure, Sharon (Sharon Case) could have played that role. But why not both Sharon and Adam?
One True Y&R Pairing
Baby Ava Hope could have also reminded Adam and Sally that they were meant to be. She’s proof that they’re the couple who should have made a family. Even if Sally kept insisting that she loved Nick, even she would have eventually heard how fake that sounded. Their daughter would have kept Adam and Sally in each other’s lives until they both stopped being stupid and admitted the obvious.
A Simple Twist of Fate For Sally Spectra
Then, just as Sally and Nick had broken up, she and Adam were reunited…THEN you reveal that Ava is Nick’s baby, after all! Now Nick is the thorn in Sally and Adam’s side. You see how that works? A story that keeps going and going. Instead of being snipped before we even get to the interesting parts!
There is still time to fix this. Will Y&R do it? After all, remember when Sharon was told her baby was dead?
