Grey’s Anatomy has some far-fetched plot lines, but one woman’s commemoration of a major character death has taken the cake – literally.
TikTok user Nora, who goes by @norisushii, has been documenting her husband as he watched Grey’s Anatomy for the first time – experiencing the highs and lows of Shonda Rhimes’ beloved medical drama.
Her videos take viewers through some of the biggest moments of the medical drama, but the season 11 episode where lead character Derek Shepard – played by Patrick Dempsey – is killed in a car accident rocked her husband to his core.
In response, the loving wife showed herself making an edible version of the truck crash – arranging toy vehicles on a frosted road – before presenting it as an anniversary cake.
After drawing a road on the cake, she then sprinkled some crumbled cookie to look like dirt on one side, arranging a car in the middle of the road and a truck about to T-bone it.
‘RIP DEREK,’ she wrote on the bottom of the cake.
In a second clip, she showed her husband’s reaction to the somewhat dicey cake.
‘Are you freaking kidding me?’ he says looking at the cake, as his wife laughs and says ‘don’t me mad.’
In the background their son can be heard saying: ‘Happy anniversary!’
‘The Porsche too!’ he wails, looking at the cake, referring to the car the character was driving – a Porsche Cayenne – when he was killed.
In the previous videos she had documented her husband’s reaction to the emotional episode, which originally aired in 2015.
Users couldn’t believe the cake, torn between feeling sorry for Nora’s husband and laughing at her decision to make the somewhat morbid creation.
‘I watched this episode when it originally aired and this cake is still too soon,’ one fan wrote.
‘I wish there was cake when I watched the show for the first time. All I got was more trauma,’ another shared.
‘This… this is diabolical on so many levels. I love it,’ laughed another.
‘We’ve had YEARS to process honestly though I would’ve broken down if someone did this to me NEXT DAY !! lol give him some time,’ chimed in another.
Grey’s Anatomy premiered in 2005, and is currently in its 21st season.
Ellen Pompeo, 55, who played Meredith – Derek’s wife – and is one of the original cast members of the drama – notably exited the show in season 19, but has returned for several guest appearances.
The actress previously commented on the exit from her leading role on The Drew Barrymore Show. ‘I gotta mix it up a little bit.’
She added that her, ‘brain is like scrambled eggs. I gotta do something new. You can’t do The New York Times crossword puzzle every single day…’
The current stars of the show include fellow original castmates Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr., as well as Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Camilla Luddington, Caterina Scorsone, Anthony Hill and Alexis Floyd.
Grey’s Anatomy aired its first episode in 2005, with some original cast including Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh and Katherine Heigl.
The show became a successful series and is currently ABC’s longest-running scripted primetime show on the network.
