It wasn’t just Grey’s Anatomy viewers who had to say goodbye to Jake Borelli’s Levi Schmitt in Thursday’s episode (recapped here). Camilla Luddington also had to say goodbye to the castmate with whom she’d become almost as close as Jo Wilson had Levi.
“When Jake arrived on set, he brought with him all the sunshine, all the talent, all the laughter and so much joy,” she said on Instagram. “No one could have played Levi Schmitt but him. It is not easy as an actor to jump back and forth between comedy and drama, and he does it with such effortless ease.”
Over the course of Borelli’s almost eight seasons at Grey Sloan, he and Luddington had played a wild array of storylines together, from their characters’ one-night stand (before Levi realized that he was gay) to their stint as roommates to, ultimately, a friendship that ran so deep, Jo asked Schmitt to be her twins’ godfather.
Borelli “will always be, hands down, one of my favorite scene partners ever,” Luddington said. “To work with him is, in fact, not work at all. I would flip through every script scanning for new ‘Jovi’ scenes because I always knew that was going to be a fantastic filming day.
How Grey’s Has Handled Major Exits
“From the moment he dropped his glasses into a body, and then onto my body, I have had to stifle all the laughter,” she continued. “Raising a glass to him tonight, and to Levi Schmitt. I will always say yes to scrubbing in with you. P.S. You owe rent on the loft.”
