George R.R. Martin Is Seemingly Done With House Of The Dragon After Latest Update: ‘I Was The Fool, And Had Been For Years’

George R.R. Martin has been having a tough year seeing all that has went down in the world of Westeros. Having co-created Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon along with Ryan Condal, the writer has faced significant backlash along with Condal due to the creative liberties the prequel took.

Although he did clarify his side of things in a now-deleted blog post, it seems he is done with the world for good. In a new blog post, based primarily on his travel, Martin seems to hint that he is stepping away from his involvement with HBO’s hit Game of Thrones prequel.

George R.R. Martin Posts Cryptic Blog Post

George R.R. Martin has always had a special affinity towards the craft of blogging. Unlike many authors who have since moved on to platforms like Instagram or X, Martin continues to stay in touch with his fans through his official blog.

Barely a month ago, the Game of Thrones writer posted a blog post detailing his frustration with House of the Dragon and the creative liberties it took. While he did delete the post shortly, it had already made its way online, making fans feel sorry for the author and how he was allegedly treated by Ryan Condal (via USA Today).

Now in another one of his blog posts (which can thankfully still be found on his website), it appears the author is done with his involvement with House of the Dragon and with whatever goes down in the tale in the future seasons.

The first few months of 2024 had been… well, no fun, let us say. January, February, March… things just kept getting worse until we came to April Fool’s Day, when it finally dawned on me that I was the fool, and had been for years. But I do not want to talk about that now. (Or maybe ever. We shall see).

Wrote the author cryptically in a post mainly about his travels. This unexpected revelation might mean a lot of things, but most importantly it hints that perhaps the author is saying ready to say goodbye to HBO’s House of the Dragon, given how it all went down in its latest season.

George R.R. Martin’s Blog Post Hints He Might be Done with HoTD for Good

There would have been no Westeros if it wasn’t for George R.R. Martin and his brilliant imagination. So when Martin was listed as a co-creator of HBO’s House of the Dragon, many had high hopes for the series, given how the last few seasons of Game of Thrones left fans severely disappointed.

While House of the Dragon has been well-received, it has received enough backlash and hate for stepping away from the source material and taking ‘creative liberties’ for the sake of fans, which fans apparently did not like at all. But we all know it was more of HBO’s problem than Martin’s decision, as he made it clear in his last, now-deleted blog post.

And now it seems that Martin is done with the series altogether, as far as his latest post is to be considered. Although the author did not state in clear words what he meant, his ‘I was the fool, and had been for years‘ statement hints that he is ready to distance himself from the Game of Thrones prequel.

His cryptic yet candid revelation has sent shockwaves through the fanbase, many of whom see Martin as the heart of Westeros. If George R.R. Martin is to step back, one can only figure out what the future will look like for House of the Dragon. Whether it will continue to deviate from the source or whether it will continue to honor Martin’s vision, guess we will have to wait and watch.

House of the Dragon is available to be streamed on HBO Max.
