Married At First Sight UK was dealt a brutal blow after its ratings dropped to an all-time low while rival show My Mum, Your Dad stormed ahead with double its viewers.

MAFS UK returned to E4 on Monday night for a new series, airing at 9pm – the same time as the Davina McCall-fronted ITV rival.

However its comeback fell flat after ratings showed it had pulled in its lowest number of viewers ever for its debut episode, of 570,000 – compared to last year’s 1.1million.

Meanwhile, season two of My Mum, Your Dad, which aired on ITV at the same time as the E4 show, bagged a whopping 1.3million viewers on Monday night.

Taking to social media, one fan suggested that MAFS UK’s ratings drop could be because people chose to watch My Mum, Your Dad instead.

MAFS UK returned for its new series on Monday and saw a bride on the new series of Married At First Sight UK break down in tears after discovering a bombshell revelation about her new husband.

Kristina, 31, who’s a dog walker from East Sussex, married Geordie Kieran, 28, during Monday night’s launch episode but was left devastated when she learned about the mechanic’s full-time living arrangements.

Kieran had already shocked Kristina by wearing a set of false teeth as they met for the first time at the altar, putting his new bride’s sense of humour to the ultimate test.

But Kristina couldn’t hold back her emotions after being told on her wedding day that Kieran resides in a static caravan, sobbing as she digested the detail about her new partner.

MailOnline’s exclusive clip showed Kieran being interrogated by his mother-in-law who questioned whether he owned a house or a flat, with the Newcastle native replying: ‘Wouldn’t you like to know…’

Kristina’s mother asked Kieran: ‘Do you live with your parents?’ before he replied: ‘I live on my own… I have got my own place.’

Keen to know more details, she probed: ‘A house or a flat… or a bedsit?’

Kieran said: ‘Don’t tell her I’ve told you this please because I want to try and keep it a bit of a secret not because… I live in a static caravan in the middle of a woodland.’

Speaking to camera, Kieran explained: ‘Kristina doesn’t know I live in a caravan and I don’t really know what she’s going to think, there’s not many lasses out there that would actually love to live in a caravan in the middle of a woods, a lot of them think it’s creepy.’

Kristina’s mother Karen asked: ‘Are there lots of other people?’ before Kieran replied, ‘No, no, it’s just me.’

Reflecting on Kieran’s revelation, Karen added: ‘Talking to him and finding out more information and you learn more about them… everyone’s different aren’t they?’

Kieran admitted: ‘I’m really nervous about Kristina finding out that I live in a caravan, she might hate it.’

And Kieran was right to feel apprehensive, with Kristina exclaiming ‘Does he actually?’ as she cried into the palms of her hands.

Kieran and Kristina married after meeting for the first time at the altar on the E4 reality series.

Wearing a joke set of false teeth, Kieran pranked his bride to test her character.

They appear to be a match made in heaven before Kristina discovers Kieran’s living situation and breaks down, throwing their romance into doubt.

The show’s new series, which began on Monday at 9pm, follows couples that have agreed to marry after being matched by relationship experts Paul Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling, who oversee the dating experiment.
