Grey’s Anatomy actress Camilla Luddington has been teasing a twisty and unmissable 21st season of the long-running medical drama.

Familiar to fans for playing obstetrics and gynaecology resident Jo Wilson on the ward, Luddington recently admitted via her Call It What It Is podcast that the opening episode’s script left her shaken.

Speaking to fellow podcast host Jessica Capshaw (that’s Arizona Robbins to Grey’s fans) ahead of the production start date, she began: “I woke up this morning, scrolled through my phone and there it was, sitting in my inbox, the premier episode script of Grey’s Anatomy season 21. And you know what’s so funny and you know this Jess, we never know what’s going to happen.

“We are not given a heads-up, so I was reading the script in bed this morning and I was shooketh. I was shooketh, I was amazed and yeah, we’re going back next week, I actually have a table read tomorrow,” Luddington went on to tell listeners.

Airing towards the end of next month, season 21 of Grey’s apparently implemented a cost-cutting exercise by reducing regular cast member screentime. This might be to do with Meredith Grey herself Ellen Pompeo’s big return for the final block of episodes – she’s said to earn an eye-watering $575,000 for each one of them.

Grey’s Anatomy season 21 premieres Thursday, September 26 on ABC in the US, with UK viewers able to catch it over on streaming service Disney+.
