Married At First Sight star Sebastian Guilhaus has lost his bid to perform volunteer work with recovering addicts, after the Supreme Court of South Australia rejected it.
The 36-year-old reality star, who is headed to trial in October for trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, appealed the District Court’s original decision to not let him serve as a ‘role model’ at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
However, on Wednesday Justice Anne Bampton for the SCSA questioned whether his ‘cautionary tale’ would be of value to Narcotics Anonymous participants.
Brampton also questioned whether Guilhaus’ request to have his strict home detention bail conditions further relaxed was the right thing to do.
‘I’ve never seen home detention bail granted to an apartment building hotel before, with access to its gym, like this agreement,’ Brampton told him.
‘This is an agreement which sets itself apart from many – actually, from most I’ve seen in the time I’ve been sitting in the criminal courts.’
Brampton added Guilhaus’ bail conditions were more ‘flexible’ than most and she would not be granting his bid.
In May, it was reported that Guilhaus will go to trial to fight a serious drug trafficking allegation.
Guilhaus, who starred on the seventh season of the popular Channel 9 dating show, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug in South Australia’s District Court.
Standing in the dock before Judge Paul Muscat, Guilhaus said ‘not guilty’ in a quiet voice after the charge was read out to him.
The allegations stem from a police raid on Guilhaus’ Croydon home in July last year, during which officers allegedly seized about 1kg of meth with a street value of about $90,000.
The 2020 season listed him as a ‘personal trainer’ and his profile labelled him as ‘eccentric and goofy’.
‘His nature is in contrast to the way he looks – 6’6″ with an athletic chiselled physique – and he fears that while women like his appearance, they might not accept what’s on the inside,’ the profile states.
He paired up with bride Lizzie Sobinoff, but the couple split in 2021 – After his stint on MAFS, Guilhaus turned to adult content creation.
