Viewers were moved by Married At First Sight groom Ash Galati’s revelation on Monday’s episode that his brother had suffered an untimely death.
Daily Mail Australia can now reveal that his brother, Peter, was fatally wounded in a violent altercation with a former best friend in Melbourne’s north in 2021.
Police allege a dispute at Mahoneys Rd in Reservoir about 4.30pm on December 6 quickly escalated, leading to Peter, 44, sustaining injuries that proved fatal.
He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
The police, in their statement at the time of the incident, reported that the one man received wounds to his ‘lower body’.
Authorities acted swiftly, arresting a 44-year-old man from Reservoir suspected of the murder.
After receiving treatment for head injuries, the suspect was charged with one count of murder.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, leaving the Galati family in a painful limbo as they await justice for Peter.
The tragedy has had a profound impact on Ash, who spoke candidly about the void left by his brother’s death.
‘Family is everything to me because we lost my older brother who passed away and it’s just brought us all closer together,’ he shared during his backstory segment on the show.
‘He was a he was a funny character. He was the life of the party. He was very outgoing, just a great guy.
‘He passed away two years ago. It’s been very hard and even just doing this process like I would have wished that like he was he was my best man.’
‘It’s just sad that he’s not gonna see me get married and like, he’s not gonna meet my kids, so that’s, yeah, that’s the rough part.’
Ash was paired up with former Home and Away actress-turned-psychic medium, Madeleine Maxwell.
Married At First Sight continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
