Kyle Abbott is feeling really, really good about himself on The Young and the Restless. First, his brilliant plotting and scheming drove Billy to resign from Jabot. Sure, Kyle did nothing. All of Billy’s decisions were triggered by Jill’s job offer and Billy’s general inability to commit to anything. But Kyle is swaggering around like, who’s the man? He’s the man! Kyle felt so confident that he confessed to Jack, Kyle, and Diane’s brilliant plan to frame Tucker. Jack approved. Kyle gloated. Here’s why he might be celebrating a wee bit prematurely.
Kyle Abbott: Absence of Evidence
First and foremost, Kyle (Michael Mealor) has no proof that Tucker (Trevor St. John) is buying what Kyle is selling. All Kyle knows is that he bluffed to Tucker, and Tucker nodded his head without changing expressions. That’s how Tucker responds to all things. There is absolutely nothing to indicate whether or not Tucker will fall into Kyle’s trap or that he doesn’t have a plan of his own for which Kyle is just a dimwitted patsy.
Free Fail
Secondly, has Kyle ever succeeded at…anything? When he first returned to Genoa City, he was scheming with Victor (Eric Braeden) against Jack (Peter Bergman). That didn’t work. More recently, he tried scheming with Audra (Zulyka Silver). That didn’t work. He’s scheming with Diane (Susan Walters) now and has added Jack (Peter Bergman) to the list. Kyle thinks he’s succeeded because Jack is willing to make him co-CEO. But that’s contingent on Kyle’s plan for Tucker working. It hasn’t necessarily worked yet.
Dim Bulb
Kyle thinks he can play Tucker, he can play Audra, he can even play his parents and come out the big winner. What basis, exactly, does Kyle have for his confidence? Everything he has ever earned in his life has been handed to him by sheer accident of birth. Does he expect Tucker to do the same? The shocking thing is…yes, he does!
