It’s not always heartbreak and drama in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
While Grey’s Anatomy may not be the first show that comes to mind when trying to think of something “warm and fuzzy” to watch, it can be heartfelt and emotional in the best possible way. To keep viewers hooked for so many years, the writers have had to show everything: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
And while the good is often overwhelmed by everything else, it still deserves a fair share of attention. Here are 5 moments that prove that even Grey’s Anatomy can be someone’s comfort show.
Alex Being Meredith’s Emergency Contact
The friendship between Meredith Grey and Alex Karev has been built up perfectly for this moment. After Grey gives birth to her daughter Ellis, she’s awakened by the appearance of Alex, who was notified of her birth as her emergency contact. Of course, he couldn’t be Cristina, but he was definitely “her person.”
April and Jackson’s Baby First Kick
Not only was the moment truly heartfelt because of Jackson’s speech about treating each other like best friends who once cared about each other despite all the differences, but it also ended on a very high note with both parents feeling their baby’s kick for the first time.
Izzie and Cristina Helping Meredith Out
Although the episode itself was extremely dark and heavy, this one moment was a declaration of true friendship between the three of them. When Izzie and Cristina both came to Meredith’s side to help her shower and wash away all the horrible memories of that day, viewers were able to see the level of trust and intimacy between them.
Baby Zola’s First Steps
There’s nothing more heartwarming than watching a child learn something new. This moment was heartwarming not only because of how happy Meredith and Derek are to see their baby girl take her first steps but also because of the closing message of the episode narrated by Ellen Pompeo in the background.
Callie and Mrs. O’Malley
There is nothing more heartbreaking than being disowned by your own mother, but Callie was lucky enough to find support in Mrs. O’Malley, the mother of her late ex-husband George. Despite everything that could lead to drama at this moment, human decency prevailed and the audience cried only happy tears with these two women.
